Hello Again, I hope you all are doing well? Yesterday afternoon was amazing. A couple of my friends and I when walking through a large public meadow called ‘Port Meadow’ to a country pub called ‘The Trout Inn’. I was a beautiful day! We strolled along the Thames, which is called the Isis in Oxford, and there are horses that graze freely in meadow that we petted. Then on the way back from having dinner at the pub there was an amazing sun set. I was a bit worried about not being able to go out into nature much while I was here, but this meadow is a 2 minute walk from my flat. I will be going there as often as possible. Last night I also went to a performance of Hamlet at the Oxford ... read more

I have finally made it to Oxford. I have been traveling around the UK for the last couple of weeks with my parents. We started out in Oxford and drove up to Edinburgh, Scotland via the Lake District and Glasgow. Then we went to Dover and saw the white cliffs and took a ferry over to the north coast of France for a day. We then spent a day in London seeing all the touristy things, and then we ended up back in Oxford. My Oxford Program started on Tuesday, and we have had a bunch of lectures on the British culture, about the city of oxford, and about how the University runs. The president on the program is a hilarious. He is an older fellow who worked in the State Department, Pentagon, and the National ... read more

Fiona's last day at the Oxford English Centre was on Friday. I have ten more work days at WISC. We went to St Andrews Church (C of E) for the last time on Sunday. We will miss our friends and community there greatly. Our flat is filled with boxes are we prepare for the big move. We have a busy couple of weeks ahead before we begin our travels. On Sunday we (finally) saw the Lion King in London. Before the performance, we intended to meet Igor for lunch to talk about travel in the Balkans, but the train service between Oxford and London was late. In the end Igor met us at the theatre. In ten minutes he referred to points of interest on a giant map of the former-Yugoslavia and then generously left the ... read more

Well busking seems to be not-so-bad after all! I must say that the Oxford crowd are much more enthusiastic than the one in the London tube- especially seeing as they are all drunk and happy! :) (It was the weekend). I busked for 2 nights in total and a little during the day and made a grand total of £100, which paid for all my accommodation, food and I still have £20 more in my wallet than when I came here! I managed to sneak back into the youth-hostel during the wee-earlies and sleep on the floor the night I was 'living' on the mound (hey, I was alive and I was on the mound! That constitutes "living"! :P) They didn't seem to have a problem with it- which was good, seeing as it was either ... read more

Well well, greetings to all those that have found this page, its lovely to have you along. I found out about this travelblog thinga-me-giga today and I've been talking about getting some photos through to all the beautiful people back home and around the place, so this looks like a pretty nice way of doing it. So here we go. Its been over a year since I departed Gods own. The plan is to write a report for each destination visited with a few photos thrown in, but in the meantime how about we do a quick recap... I left NZ in April last year, spending 2 weeks in Thailand on route to London. Once in London I headed straight up to Newcastle to outstay my welcome with Kristin's sister Ann and her family Alan, Cameron ... read more

Next we saw Oxford which was really cool. One of my best buddies, Rachel Sparks (aka Sparky) went here for a semester so I was excited to see where she lived. Oxford was really incredible- so old and yet so full and busy. We walked down the streets and played tourist. We looked in old bookshops and I saw my first starbucks in 8 months. Weird, being from Seattle, not to see them all over the place. UG bought me a coffee : ) We saw the different campuses and walked around looking at all the pubs and student hangouts. We also went to the Eagle and Child where the Inklings used to meet. Evidently its been remodeled and the back was knocked out to make it bigger but the front room is the same. We ... read more

Wow, it's been 9 months since my last post, and looooads has happened since, where to start.... OK, firstly the best news, and that is we have decided to try and go to Australia again, after not going after NZ we were a bit disappointed for a few months but then gave up on going on a Working Holiday Visa as it is only 2 years until I am too old to get one (30) ... and we got on with our lives did some things and then in the last few weeks we have decided that what we want to do we can do here in the UK or over in OZ, but the difference being that we would be much happier doing it in OZ and also now that OZ have changed the WHV ... read more

so yesterday, my shakespeare class technically lasted for 11 hours. We went to class at 1:15 and didn't get back from doing Shakespeare things till 12:15 am!!! yeah, crazy, I know. But Paricles was the best Shakespeare play I have ever scene. Maybe it was cuz I stood up right against the stage so there were actors flying over me as acrobats, people getting in fights right in front of me, actors going out on a platform right behind me. I have been so spoiled by this experience. Nothing will be done right now that I have seen this production of Pericles in the Globe Theater. I think the coolest thing of the show which I will document here was the ship wreck when Pericles is the only one to survive. They had a ship that ... read more

As so often happens when you are camping the moment we even thought about setting up our tent it started to teem from the heavens. So much for our sunny weekend in Oxford.... the English forecasters and the English weather had failed us again. Nevermind, we were here now and our friend from Adelaide who was here on business was picking us up to visit the nearby Blenheim Palace soon. It would be great to see him and catch up on all the news from home. Our first impression of Oxford as we walked through the city that morning was that it was very pretty but completely over run with large and loud groups of Spanish and American students, complete with matching backpacks or jumpers and not much consideration for anyone else sharing the streets. Arighty, so I'm in Oxford University at St. John's College. I think I'm finally figuring this whole Oxford in 39 parts thing... slowly, haha. This has been the first time I've gotten to a computer in a long time, it's a huge hassle to get on the internet with laptops (speaking of which, baccary, can you resend me your password with any capitalizations and do you have a security program like Norton or something?) Ok, anyways, sorry about that. Got to London on Thursday morning, met up with Seth at Buckingham Palace. Let's just say showing up at the Changing of the Guard on a Thursday afternoon looking for someone you don't know can be very interesting, haha. Walked around for a while, got a bite to eat and upon deciding he is not an axe ... read more
