Monument found whilst wandering Oxford
I think it's a monument for WWII veterans...but I thought it might make a neat picture. Well, I made it to Oxford safely! Today was my second day of classes, and I think that they will be a lot of fun. Our two professors are both very competent, and yet they both have an amusing sense of humor, which makes class much better!
My daily schedule is as follows:
·8:15-8:45: Breakfast - The food here is really good. Breakfast is buffet style, and they usually have rolls (with jam, cream chesse, butter, and whatnot), cereal, eggs, toast, meaty foods, and yogurt to choose from.
·9:00-10:30: - Political Economy - This class is a non-mathematical econ class...it is really more of a history class. It is quite fascinating though, because I know very little about English history/politics/economics. Today, for example, we spent most of the class talking about what health care is like in a welfare state.
·11:00-12:30: International Economics - This class is a little more of the traditional/theortical economics, although it too concentrates mostly on the UK, and also how the UK and US interact with each other.
·12:30-1:00: Lunch - Buffet style like breakfast is. The usual lunch so far has had varying main dishes, a form
Street in Oxford
This is a random picture looking down one of the main streets in Oxford. Notice the flowers and...overall prettiness! :) of potato, vegetables, salad (with this really good dressing that I’m not really sure what it is...), rolls, yogurt, and fruit.
·Afternoon: Free Time - The afternoons here so far have been very relaxing, although here is where the title of this post will come in... The temperature in Oxford is usually between 40-70 degrees (with over 75 being considered hot.) This week, however, we have been in the upper 90’s, and I think tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest, with the temp going over 100. Now, I know most of you back home are experiencing this same type of weather. The only difference is that NO where here has air conditioning. For that matter, no where here even has a fan or any form of ventilation in the rooms. Therefore, it is quite toasty, to put it nicely. Hopefully it will cool down after this week and return to the normal temperatures (because people tell us “I can’t remember it ever being this hot here!”) This time is also when High Tea and punting take place, along with going out to the shops around Oxford, since most everything closes around 5:30-6 here.
·6:30-7:15: Dinner
My Bedroom
This is a picture of my room with clothes all over it... I have a sink and mirror, and then the bathroom and toilet are down the hall. Our bathroom door is broken though- so we get locked in for several minutes every time we try and use it... - Unlike the other two meals of the day, dinner is a sit-down, 3-4 course meal that is served to us. So far they have been quite excellent!! We usually begin with a type of soup (all vegetarian, so far) and roll. Then we often have a salad with lots of veggies on top, and then the main course. The vegetarian main dishes have all been wonderful- instead of using soy, they often use this corn-bake stuff in food that they said is similar to tofu. It’s weird though- it is the consistancy of pork, but has a *wonderful* flavor!! Then, we naturally have dessert with every meal as well. It is often fresh fruit with a tart, merainge, or something of that sort. However- we are having chocolate mousse tomorrow which I am quite excited for!
·After Dinner: Evening Activity/Free Time - This is when all of our “cultural events” take place. Tonight we went to a Mozart concert that was put on at a neighboring college. Tomorrow one of the colleges is performing The Taming of the Shrew, and I’m looking forward to that because I’ve always wanted to see it! They have different things going

I meant to upload this with the last post... but we found this pub on our way to mass Sunday morning and thought you might appreciate it. on every night, and you just sign up that day for it and then you have a ticket. I’ll probably be going to most of them, since they’re FREE!! (or rather, covered in the price of the program...so I will be sure I get my full monies worth!)
Well, I think that about sums up my daily life here! Sorry it was so long... Just a few other random notes in case you aren’t thoroughly bored yet...
Nate and I walked around Oxford last night and found the Oxford Oratory (Maureen, please tell Liz thank you for the recommendation!), which is the Catholic Church in Oxford. We went to mass this morning at 7:30, and it was really nice! It’s a cute, small, old church that still uses the kneeling rails for Communion. J
The town of Oxford is simply beautiful. A lot of the streets are cobble stone, and there are HUGE pots of hanging flowers everywhere (in the middle of the streets from all the light poles, and also on the outside of a lot of the buildings.) Also, all of the little shops (every type you could want) are nestled into all of the streets among the different colleges. I like it a lot!
Ok, well I am going to begin uploading pictures now... Check out Nate’s travel blog (www.travelblog.org/bloggers/skiafnm) for more pictures. He posted some from the remaining time at London, and one (maybe two?) of the AMAZING brownie sundae that we had from an ice cream shop here in Oxford...

I'm loving all the emphasis on food in your posts! Delicious! I'm glad your professors are interesting, and that you have so much free time. Hopefully, the weather gets better because I'm sure that is just MISERABLE. Not at all conducive to sight-seeing! Anywho, I think this bubble tea restaurant thing is closing soon, so I'm off. I CANNOT wait to see you in August!!
