John's carvingsJohn's carvingsJohn's carvings

An example of John's carving
John, who is a stonemason working with Nigel at York House in Malton, invited all of us out to his "family house". Located outside of York, Moreby Hall (built in 1828) was purchased jointly about 25 years ago in an unconventional arrangement by several members of his parents' generation, including his mother and several of her siblings and their spouses. John grew up in this house surrounded by his extended family: grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Although each family has its separate living quarters with a small kitchen, there is also a communal kitchen and dining room -- where many holiday dinners were shared over the years. John has many memories of growing up in this extraordinary house; and we were very fortunate that he shared this experience with all of us. We roamed the grounds, climbed to the top of the turret to view the River Ouse snaking through the "flatlands" of York, explored seemingly endless nooks and crannies of the interior of the house... and much more. Thank you John!
