During our trip south we stayed in Weymouth in order to visit the limestone quarries on the Isle of Portland.

After an incredibly steep climb up the east side of the island, we reached Tout Quarry, overlooking Chesil Cove. The reward was this dramatic view and howling winds.

English heritage has taken measures to stabilize the ruins of "Rufus Castle", once a Norman lookout built on the limestone cliffs overlooking the English Channel.

The ruin sits on private property. We serendipitously met the owner who allowed us to see the ruin close up.

We climbed along the coastal limestone cliffs and looked back up at the strategically perched ruin, overlooking the English Channel.
