Waking to such beautiful morning, I left early by bike and cycled the stunning cycle ride that runs along a path through Wirral countryside and along the River Dee. I went for approximately 12 miles (20km) before turning around. It follows the track bed of part of the former Birkenhead Railway route from West Kirby to Hooton. I cycled past (in and out of) meadows, heathland and woodland. High stone bridges every few kilometres were passed under too. They added to the romanticism of the countryside. There was a huge variety of birdlife and numerous squirrels scurrying across or along the path. Running parallel to the cycle path is a narrow horse riding trail. It really is a unique area and offers easy access for all of the people who live along this section of the ... read more

Well 24 hours with Mary and Rob has been very relaxed indeed. With the essentials of washing and ironing completed I was so relaxed that I was able to don the cycling gear and head out to enjoy this ‘pretty nice day’.... read more

There’s something about being back in a ‘familiar’ environment; Rob and Mary’s in Caldy, across the river from Liverpool. A relaxed, loving environment, a place to ‘put-the-feet-up’ for a little while with time to reflect on what we have experienced, seen and wondered at on these, our travels.... read more

Thank goodness for Robert Elliott and Mary Elliott is all I can say. A very early start (4am) to the hectic few hours. More than hour on the bus to the airport and then the huge throng of fellow travellers to wind our way through to then find that our gate was the furthest to be reached all so we could be rewarded with a standing position in queue for our boarding. The ever reliable and very calm Rob was th...ere to meet and warmly greet us at Manchester. What I lke about Rob is that he is not a fuddy duddy driver pottering along at 80kph on the motorway. It was Daniel Ricciardo all the way and with me letting the team down badly by being sick we reached the welcoming arms of Mary in ... read more

I began my walk at 6am. No one was about. It was cool but not overly so. Headed to the cliff walk to see that the tide was out and the yachts tilted to the side as they stuck fast to the mud. Rabbits galore scurrying from bush to bush, hole to hole. Squirrels too. Overhead numerous sea birds flying to their destination in perfect V formation. The sun was yet to rise but would do soon. Still no one about. Best time to be out. I headed to the sea wall in front of the small township of West Kirby. No breeze and witnessed the sun rise and come from behind a few clouds as I stood out on the sea wall. Reminded me of home in the early morning when I head out onto ... read more

The correct decision was made by flying in and spending relaxing, chilling out days with Rob and Mary. Conversation, laughs and quality food are in abundance. Surprisingly, I have been disciplined in the later! The walk up and through Caldy Hill was refreshing and gave us a superb view of the surrounds, looking down on the township of Caldy, the River Dee, across to northern Wales and the wind powered turbines scattered across the sea out from Liverpool. We are being blessed with beautiful weather. Naturally we are taking all the credit by bringing it with us from Western Australia. It must be said, that the icing on the cake was the West Coast Eagles win back home!... read more

Caldy is a small, affluent village on the Wirral Peninsula, England, located to the south east of West Kirby and is situated on the eastern side of the Dee Estuary. The historic village is characterised by the following: Winding roads with sandstone walls • properties enclosed by high walls with private yards or gardens • well maintained public or semi-public spaces with shrubs and herbaceous plants with a mixture of winding and long straight roads overhung with mature trees • Relatively high density • Low building heights • ‘single material’ houses • use of natural stone, pale brown brick or ‘black and white’ • many houses have eaves dormers, mullioned windows and kneelers on gables • Vertical boarded timber front fences A very 'take-it-easy' day. A relaxing, if not cold, walk for an hour or so ... read more
