We anchored at French St Barthélemy, with St Maarten clearly visible 25km away. Lots of super yachts in the harbour and we Googled some for fun. A missile defence system - really?

See pic - Super yacht "Luna". Built 2009, cost USD 545M. Length 115m.

- 10 VIP guest cabins over 100 square metres each, a 20 metre indoor/outdoor swimming pool, 9 decks and a large outdoor entertaining area. Luna is also equipped with 8 tenders, 1 mini-submarine and a crew of 50 persons.

- Fitted with an anti-missile system like its sister yacht, Eclipse. All windows are bulletproof to B7+ levels. The steel hull is over 17.5 cm thick. LRAD guns, bomb-proof doors, FLIR.

- Luna and Eclipse have the only multipurpose custom made Lifeboats/Limousine in the world, at a cost of over $4M each. They are capable of acting as VIP transport and being lifeboats at the same time.

- 2 helipads rated over 7.5 tons capacity

- 1 million litre fuel tank, enabling a range of over 9,000 nm at economical speeds of 16-18 knots (max 23 knots). "Fill 'er up" would have a whole new meaning to a wallet!

Awarded world's best super yacht in 2013. It is so automated that it can be sailed by one person.

With a pop of only 10,000, St Barts is a playground for the rich and famous. We didn't do an island tour (it's only 25 sq km) but it seemed to be well maintained and looked after. The fancy yachts docked at the pier reminded us of Porto Banos near Marbella in Spain, but without the same number of super cars - can't do much driving on such a tiny island.

Sounds very "James Bondish". I'll take mine shaken, not stirred. Do they need an old Navy helicopter pilot?
