22nd – 23rd Sept ’12 JFK to LHR
So we didn’t make it to Coney Island, it was going to take too long so we just mooched about instead, visited Times Square and saw the singing Naked Cowboy and the Red Indian both of whom weren’t actually naked but still caused quite a stir! Had a final visit to the Cold Stone Creamery – yum yum, but it was very quiet this time and nobody sang which was a bit of a let down.
Before we knew it we were on our way to the airport. We were flying from terminal 4 which was a bit of a building site and had hardly any shops to look in, we got a bit swizzed by the duty free as we bought them from the shop before we went to the departure area (after being assured they were all the same price), got through and found they were buy one get one half price the other side – what a cheek!
The flight was an hour late leaving and we got virtually no sleep, no idea why just couldn’t seem to get off. Arrived at Heathrow (so now it’s the
New York
Ha ha hee hee! 23rd) and it was really quick getting through immigration which was a miracle. Then set off for the tube to get to Gary’s.
The tube journey wasn’t so straight forward, it was Sunday and we couldn’t get off at the stop we needed so ended up going to Kings Cross, getting another tube, then the driver announced the train was going out of service, got off and waited for another one and finally got to Clapham North.
We found Gary’s new flat fine and met Frankie in the lift – I don’t know who was more surprised! We had a tour of Gary’s lovely new place, set our mucky gear off washing and we were taken out to dinner to a Brazilian Barbeque which was a real treat.
Howard was feeling rough and his eye was going mad so he went off to bed, Frankie had to leave to get home and Gary and I sat up chatting and watching X factor. It was so good to see him and Frankie again, it was just a shame I was so tired and Howard was so ill!
24th Sept ’12 London
Gary was flying off today for work so we had a quick chat and said our goodbyes. Later we made our way over to the Angel tube station and walked down to Neil’s. We had a good chat and a takeaway for tea (as Howard wasn’t up to going out).
25th Sept ’12 London
Howard just stayed in bed all day today. Neil gave me his oyster card and I set off on the bus for Oxford Street to get a few things we needed and to later meet Suzanne and Ian.
We had a good catch up, few drinks and some dinner before they put me on the bus back to Neil’s again, it was so good to see them again and to have a laugh!
26th Sept ’12 London and flying on…
Howard managed to get himself out of bed and we walked down to The Angel pub for some breakfast and then to the HSBC bank to try and sort out our bank account – unsuccessfully!
Back at Neil’s we sorted all our gear out and packed the absolute minimum into our two rucksacks and left a great mound of stuff in the suitcase to pick up on our return. I must say it was such a relief not to be having to drag that suitcase around anymore!
After saying our goodbyes to Neil (once again it was great to see him also) we caught to tube back out to Heathrow ready for the next leg of the epic journey!
