A Special DinnerA Special DinnerA Special Dinner

On Sunday Tracey cooked us a pork roast dinner with Yorkshire puds and crackling. Yum.

Tuesday 18 May

We had a very quiet day yesterday. Between short walks and activities around the house, I fitted in some TV and a couple of extra dozes and Karen did some letter writing. All the time we kept an eye on the TV news and British Airways' (BA) web site. Late in the day it was announced that BA had succeeded in getting a court injunction to stop the cabin workers union from starting their strike action today. However the union said that they would appeal this in the High Court today, so we await further developments. At this stage BA hopes to be running their full schedule of flights by the weekend, ash cloud permitting! Last night we were able to stay up later before having to go to bed, and both had a pretty normal sleep, waking up feeling much more refreshed this morning. It has thus taken us 4 days to completely adjust our body clocks by 11 hours. In a way it is amazing that the body can reverse day and night in even this time. It would take a day or two less if you had a stop over for 3 or 4 days on the flight over.

Today we got up to a beautiful mild calm Spring morning and, being Tuesday, were ready for Mall Walking. Lacking a mall however, we headed off walking towards the NW to the local branch of Enterprise Car Rentals to book a car for our trip later on to the Isle of Wight. That took us nearly an hour. Just before getting there we crossed the Grand Union Canal, a fairly wide canal that winds its way through the NW of London. We noticed that, like most canals, it has a cycling/walking path alongside it, so decided to walk back along the canal path. It took us right to our Sainsburys near home, where we popped in for a few groceries. Again, it was a walk of just under an hour back, so we have done our 'Mall Walking' for the week!

On getting home I found that I could successfully download Karen's photos using the new method. I will include some more lovely elephants in a seperate entry for you to see.

Wish we were there!!
Thank you for the ongoing story Karen and Peter. You've no idear how much you are pulling our heart strings! Pleased to know you are seeing some parts of the city that are old and interesting. The G.U. Canal was one of the major routes of transpor in our early years and we walked those towpaths not so many years ago. We celebrated Enio's birthday on Tuesday which took him by surprise. Dorothy's on Thursday. Jean had the 2nd eye injection yesterday. Delighted to say Jean feels an improvement since. 3rd injection next moth then another test after that. Hopefully this will heal the bleed and stop the deterioration. We talked to our grd.daughter this morning. she is working and living within two minutes of Borough High st. Not far from you.. Today is cool 12D. Cloudy, but threatened snow for w/e now unlikely. Kindest regards to you and all Family... Jean and Jack

LOVELY WALKWAY
HI, Looks really nice over there. Cold and wet here so I guess winter is here. We had soup by candle light last night, just sat down and out went the power, so glad we had a few candles and a flash light. Lasted two hours, guess we will have to wait till the local rag comes out to find out what happened. Hope the dust stays away. Love Pam and Irvin
