Heyyyy Guys! So I feel like I am the only one writing on this, but most of you are not over here yet. Well actually I do believe that Natalie, Rachel and Lily should be arriving on the continent shortly, or already have. And Tanya has been here for weeks, so I don't know what's going on with her! But anyways, I am going to tell you all about my exciting life in LONDON!
Last weekend we went and did some touristy type things. We bought this thing called the London pass to get into a lot of places for free! We ended up saving a lot of money actually! We started off very early (well around nineish) and we went to the Tower of London. I already saw it last time I was here, but it was still cool to see! Last time I was there I just had to follow the tour guide around, but this time we just kinda wandered around the castle. And of course we got to see the Crowned Jewels there! I really think I was meant to be royal. OH and I found out there was a Queen Alexandra. She was from Denmark
Traitor Gate
This used to be in a moat, and they would bring the Traitors in to the prision in a boat. The moat was pretty much sewage. and married Queen Vicotria's son that went on to become King. There is a monument to her in St. James Park, so I'll have to go and find it. Also a the Tower of London, there were GIANT birds. If I wasn't so afraid of them I would have taken a picture, so you all could understand how giant they were. They were ravens. OH MY GOD. There was a sign that said "Warning Ravens May Bite". I just had to get out of that area asap. Oh dear.
After the Tower of London we ate lunch and bought some postcards. Then we continued on to St. Paul's Cathedral. It was so pretty! We climbed up to the first gallery that was called the Whispering gallery. It is at the base of the dome, and if you put your mouth to the wall and whisper something the sound travels and is carried to the next person. It was really cool. Then we climbed up to the first observation deck. I have lots of great pictures from there!
After that we walked over the millenium bridge. That was a walking bridge that is not nearly as cool as the
Wash Ave bridge. Just Kidding, and we went to The Globe Theater. I was so excited to be there! You have no idea. I bought a shot glass that has a quotation from The Tempest on it. So exciting!
After the globe we kinda wandered around for a while. We tried to go to Benjamin Franklin's house, but it was already closed. We ended up going to the War Cabinet Rooms. I saw that last time I was here too, but there wasn't much else to see. But oh well. It's all these rooms that were completely underground that Churchill used during World War Two, when the threat of Nazi envasion was real. It was cool to see, but to see it two times? not so much. Oh well.
Then we went to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner. We went into the store and this guy who worked there took us downstairs to the Vault. That is where they keep a whole bunch of special items. He asked me where I was from and I said Minnesota, and he got all excited and showed me Bob Dylans guitar! Then we ate there for dinner which was nice
because I haven't had a really good meal since I've been here!
On Sunday we kept up with the sightseeing. We went to Kensington Palace and Kensington gardens. The palace is where Princess Diana lived, it's like the royal apartments. There was this display there about the last debutantes in England too. That was pretty cool. They had a lot of cool dresses there too from the debutantes. They also had some of Princess Diana's dresses there too, including the mermaidesque black one that she wore when she danced with John Travolta. That was pretty cool.
After that Christie and I went to Wimbeldon. That was pretty cool. We got to walk down the same hallway as the tennis stars do! So that was neat. I was exhausted after that, so we headed home.
Yesterday we went to the London Dungeon. I thought they were going to tell us cool things about how they used to use torture in London, but it was just this really weird creepy exhibit. It was really dark for most of it, and I was worried I was going to get pickpocketed. The first thing they did was let a bunch of
us into a room that was full of mirrors and it was like a maze and we had to find our way out. Little did we know, they had the exit gated off, so we couldn't make it. We just ran around like fools for a while. They did have a part on Jack the Ripper that was semi-interesting. But overall, it was not worth the twenty pounds i paid for it. But then we went to dinner at an Italain Resturant, and the waiter was SUPER cute.
We went out last night drinking too. I'm just embarassing, because I'm such a lightweight. Hopefully that will change after this semester. Tonight is my friend Christie's birthday, so I think we might go out dancing, if we can find a place to go!
MISS YOU GUYS LIKE CRAZY! sorry I wrote a lot!
