Alrighty then - time for the next installment of Luke and Jenni's adventures.
Firstly a few things to get of my chest:
1) Cyclists don't wear helmets here - Very dumb.
2) The weather has been AMAZING. Today was totally amazing as per some of the photos.
3) The culture here is to drink, drink, drink, then drink a bit more. Keeping fit is extremely unlikely.
4) 4x4 quad bikes are street legal here. Very cool.
5) People you meet go out of their way to help you as a "newbie".
OK, those points aside, perhaps a bit more about what we have actually done.
On the job hunt side - Jenni has secured a role with the University of London as a Recruitment Advisor. She found out on Wednesday, so thats a pretty good effort to have a role secured within 3 business days of getting here.
I'm an unemployed bum. I am happy to admit it, I am OK with it, and infact, I could actually get used to it. I just need to convince Jenni to get a second job from 6pm til 11pm each night, and she will then be able to support
Jenni in Russell Square
Relaxing after her job interview my full travel and drinking requirements while in Europe. Awesome hey....
That plan failing, I will continue attending interviews and seeking a suitable role. Things are looking positive that I will have something by this Friday.
We are moving into our place at Wimbledon next Saturday. We went there today (Sunday) for a BBQ to spend some time with them and to meet their friends. We had a fantastic day and met some great people - People from all around the world - South Africa - Sweden - Hungary - Serbia (Kosovo) - Greece - Portuguese - Slovenia - and even another Aussie. So it was great to meet their friends, and they were all great people whom we are now friends with, so thats awesome.
The party was great because the sun was shining and we were in the backyard with the BBQ going, and Sasha even setup with DJ decks in the backyard so we could all have awesome tunes to listen to. I truly felt like I was in the backyard of a mate's place in Adelaide on a Summers day - it was great. Sasha's actually DJ's a bit around Wimbledon, so it
will be great to go in Wimbledon and know the DJ. He's also promised to teach me now to use the decks and become a DJ, which is something I'm really looking forward to.
We also went to another house party last night with Jenni's friend Heidi, which was also lots of fun. Met more great people who we will keep in contact with and hang out with. We have certainly noticed that people will go out of their way to help you in whatever way they can when you tell them that you just got here one week ago. Everyone who we have met has been really nice, friendly, trustworthy and generous. Its been great to build up a small network of friends just within a week of getting here. People are inviting us to parties, festivals to travel with them etc.
Jenni starts work tomorrow - and as much as she is happy about it - she is also really wishing she had another week off to hang around and have more fun and hang around with me! I'm jealous of her finding work so easy, but she jealous of me having more time off than
her, so fairs fair!
I've added as many photos as I could find and it just to turns out that the vast majority are party or social related. Not much sightseeing ones here folks.
So we are having a great time and have lots to look forward to. Next weekend is Jenni's cousin's wedding so we will be helping out with that a fair bit next weekend, but I'm sure we'll fit in other partying around that too. We are both missing friends and family though - and hope that if anyone is able to come over here for a holiday and to see us, that would be great!
Sorry if this blog wasn't as exciting as the previous ones - I guess once you settle in a little the initial "wow" factor wears off and day to day life settles in - but once we move into our own place next weekend I think there will be much more exciting stuff to report, and hopefully some travel to other places around Europe. We are hoping to get to Cornwall in the next few weeks as apparently its pretty cool there during Summer. Or perhaps France -
there is a long weekend coming up where we are thinking we could "duck over" to France for 3 days or so on the Euro-star!
Hope all is well back home and again, please make sure you comment on this blog so we know that you are reading it! The comments on the last blog were encouraging, so please keep it up, its so great to hear from people back home.
PS - I just went to the bathroom while the pics were uploading and saw that my forehead is actually burnt pretty bad from the sun today! Crazy!
