The entrance to the market We sound horrible. Susan started her antibiotics last night and I started mine when we woke up today. This was my twelfth day of not feeling great. Oh well, we had to make the best of it. After breakfast we wrote and posted the blog then headed into Greenwich. The ferry to the dock was relatively empty. The village was quiet and there wasn’t a lot to see. We did see the market; it was more like a flea market with some food vendors. The old sailing ship was located by the pier, and we got pictures of it. There is also the entrance to a tunnel built in 1903 that goes under the Thames. All the while on the trip, we’ve seen the old red British phone booths. They aren’t still in use. Some have been repurposed to be ATMs, others for advertising and others just abandoned.
We saw the tour leader for the next included tour and asked her if we saw most of what was on the tour and we had, so we skipped our tour and got back on board. Once we got back, Susan pulled out her scissors and tried to cut something
and the scissors slipped, and she cut herself bad. I called the emergency number so that they could get the Dr to the medical center (closed at the time) and Susan headed down. About 45 minutes later, she returned with 3 stiches and a wrapped-up finger.
After that, we were both tired and we rested until lunch. After lunch we were supposed to leave the port at 2 with all aboard at 1:30. Well at 2 they announced that the people in 2 cabins were not accounted for. We’re not sure if they ever got back on the ship but the ship left at 3:00. We tried to go to the front of the ship to get the best view, but it was packed so we went to the back of the ship. Sailing down the river Thames was nice – so an ocean cruise that is part river cruise. One interesting item was seeing the Thames Barrier which can be closed to control flooding into the city. We went to the afternoon tea where we met a few people and enjoyed talking with them until Claire got into another coughing fit and we had to excuse
ourselves. Dinner was nice and then we went back to the room to watch the port talk. We knew that there was a possibility of seeing the Northern Lights. I called the front desk and asked to be woken up if they occurred. They seemed clueless. On the Baltic Sea cruise, you could sign up to get a call. We slept with the curtains open and woke up often, but we didn’t see any. We are so sad that we missed them since they were seen all the way to Southern Florida. We will continue to keep our eyes out tonight.
