Plane ride
We paid a little extra for a few more inches of leg room. It was worth it. We could cross our legs without doing contorsions. 8 photos in this entry. see note at the end
The flight from Chicago to London didn’t seem as bad as usual. 7 ½ hours. Of course we are too cheap to pay for business or first class, but we did pay a small amount extra for a few more inches of leg room and it was worth it. We could easily cross our legs. Food was terrible, but we had the individual TVs with lots of movies to pass the time. We also got lucky on the seating. The plane was configured with 3 seats on each side and 3 in the middle. We booked an aisle and middle in the middle section. The guy sitting next to Dot (on the other aisle) got up before take-off and never came back. Just disappeared. So she moved over and we each got an aisle with an empty seat between us for all our stuff. Worked out great. Never saw mystery guy again.
Arrived London around 11pm and flew through Customs. Very talkative cab driver. I think he wanted us to buy a tour from him.
Today was a leisurely day. Slightly jet-lagged and tired in the morning. Breakfast
Natural History Museum
A gorgeous old building here at our wonderful B&B, where we are staying on the 4th floor (no elevator of course). I will be in better shape when I leave here. Went to the Natural History Museum this morning which is in a gorgeous old building. Picture somewhere in the blog. Not sure how the pictures work yet. The weather today was gorgeous - very sunny, not very windy and in the high 60s. Best weather we have ever had in London. Of course we brought all these warm clothes thinking it would be chilly. Ooops.
We wandered around, enjoying London. We crossed the roads very carefully and only pissed off one driver. It is very hard to look the wrong way all the time.
This afternoon we went to the matinee at the Old Vic theatre to see All My Sons. An Arthur Miller play starring Sally Field and Bill Pullman. They were both really good. It is a small theater so we felt like we were close. Good show.
After the theatre we went to dinner for Fish n Chips at Master Super Fish, a local favorite. Greasy and good. I think it is the first time they ever
Iced Tea
For the first time ever, Dot found iced tea in London - at Starbucks, of course. With ice. brought us bread with our meal like they do in St Louis. That never happens here. They brought us some other complimentary starters that we couldn't even look at - they were staring at us. Find the picture in the blog.
After dinner, of course, Gelato. The one near our B&B is still there. Luxe Gelato. Yummy.
Rode the Tube everywhere we needed to go today. So handy and fast. We love it.
We are staying in the South Kensington area, which is very residential and quiet but short walk to the Tube and lots of restaurants and shops. Over 10,000 steps today. Tomorrow will be a much busier day.
I THINK ONLY A FEW OF THE PHOTOS SHOW UP WITHIN THE BLOG. THE REST ARE SOMEWHERE BELOW, I THINK. THERE ARE 8 PHOTOS IN THIS ENTRY.
