Having been too young for Woodstock and too poor for Live Aid, I have always wanted to go to an all day rock concert. I finally got the chance as my friend Mike was able to get tickets to Live Earth. Actually, he too is a member of tenUK, or as I like to call them, the miracle workers and they were able to get him six tickets. So, relatively early in the morning, Jeremy, Mike, Sabi and I headed out to Wembley Stadium for the event. We met our friends Vere and Henry there and the six of us spent the day listening to music. For those of you who missed all the drama because you don’t live in London, Wembley Stadium has been around for years. In fact, Russ, Kate and I saw Helen ... read more

Here's another account of my work in this, the London Education System. The Incident Report read something along the lines of: Period 4 Physical Education; Year 9 Boys Basketball; A relatively simple lesson plan: a game. A nearby gymnastic mat had not been put away - so some of the students awaiting their game thought rather than sitting as requested, class time could be better spent using the mat in a slip-and-slide type of fashion. Alert to the imminent dangers, but more so to the distraction, this would cause to the players on court I asked them quite sternly to sit down. To my surprise most of them did. Except of course the class-hero who thought he would show his mates one final time how far he could run up, dive, and slide the mat across ... read more

The flight from Portugal to London landed me at Luton airport in the late afternoon where I exchanged my Euros for some local British currency. The notes here are ridiculously when I couldn't fit them in my wallet, I thought for a second that I had put them in sideways. My embarrassing wallet situation was eased as I exchanged a few notes for a shuttle bus ride into London's Baker Street station. Pete (who I met on Contiki) picked me up and kindly let me stay at his place. It was great to be around the familiar faces again and to be shown around by some locals. I didn’t want to outstay my welcome so after a few days of bumming I scanned the web for a decent share-house and was lucky enough to find a ... read more

Getting quite used to this diary thing and with very little to do at work (1 day left) thought i would update after one of our weekends in London to see Ben & Rosalyn. They live in Primrose Hill in a Flat in a converted Georgian house and this was our first visit to their new pad and a great weekend it was. I am getting quite aware of ramming our flight plans down the same ears so it was nice to update people who seemed genuinely interested and plans were even hatched for a potential meet up in Thailand (watch this space). After a very 'North London Lunch' of mixed salad leaves, balsamic and cured meats (I may mimic but i loved every bite) we headed of to hang by the thames and enjoy the ... read more

We may not get a holiday for Waitangi day, but all of you at home will be relieved to know that there is still a big show of New Zealand pride, even if it not really along the traditional lines. The circle line pub-crawl was bigger than I ever thought it would be with thousands of New Zealanders starting at 11am and making their way to Westminster stopping at every tube station to go out and get a beer. Unfortunately the designated pubs were not quite big enough for the huge crowd that ended up taking part, so in the end we decided that it would be easier (and cheaper) to find an off licence and stock up on beers that we drank along the way. Apparently there are no laws about drinking in public here, ... read more

I decided that I might do a “day in the life of” entry seeing as I still don’t have a job, and as a result have copious amounts of time. I decided to go around and take some pictures of the local neighbourhood, but then my batteries ran out, so there are a few pictures to keep things interesting (well… moderately so). The little cars I found very amusing. I was trying to work out whether A: The driver of the orange ridiculously small car, was trying to show the owner of the grey ridiculously small car, exactly what you can do (and the versatile parking tricks) with ridiculously small cars. B: It was just a coincidence that two ridiculously small cars were parked side by side in a ridiculously small space, or C: I busted ... read more
