I didn't really buy a baguette though Well looks like I'll have to over everything that happened yesterday, and then some of today. To begin with I was supposed to go on a guided historical walking tour yesterday morning, but when my alarm when off I got up and found myself gagging in the toilet. Don't anyone dare think I got sick from drinking because I barely had one. I don't know what it was. At first I thought it was the flu, that is the last thing I wanted right before classes start. But after that I decided to skip the tour and go back to bed. I woke up at noon and I felt fine. It's still beyond me what happened, maybe I was dehydrated or overtired I don't know. I feel bad that I missed the tour, I'm sure that everyone thinks I was hung over or something, cause all the people that were also skipped it.
I went looking for a post office so I could mail some postcards but I got a bit lost, there are two post office and they are about as equally far away. But I'll try again soon, and this time I'll take the map, but today is
Trafalgar square
Local concert festival Sunday so maybe tomorrow.
I went grocery shopping for the first time today, not my first time ever, as Matt thought i meant. But my first time for myself. For some reason cooked chicken is less expensive than raw chicken, is that also the case in the US? But I was quite excited about that, less work for me. What's weird here is that they don't have conveyor belts you place your basket on a ledge and they take items out and ring them up and then you are supposed to bag them yourself. That sounds like cheating someone out of a job if you ask me. Matt didn't know this so he stood there while the woman packed everything for him, but then when I pointed out to him what everyone else was doing he felt bad.
At 4 we participated in a scavenger hunt, sponsored by the GC's (They are the graduate students that studied abroad in the past and are now payed to live and work at the study centre) Each flat was a team, though only like 5 participated, and we had to answer all these questions and collect as many brochures as we
could from around certain notable places in the city, in just an hour! We split up into two groups, Andy, Dana, and Matt went to answer the questions and Jessica and I went around the city. We walked to the British museum and then because we don't have tube (underground metro) passes walked all the way to Trafalgar square, because there are tonnes of museums there. I doubt any other teams got those, because it is far. Then we had to run all the way back because each minute you are late, a point is deducted. So just 5 minutes late and our entire trip there would have been in vain. My shoes were killing me so I ended up taking them off. So picture me, barefoot, running through the streets of London... haha, such is life.
After a quick dinner of cereal and some potatoes that Dana made (great I know) I went out with some friends to Soho. I knew we would probably end up clubbing so I didn't bring my purse, but I brought a little money. However I completely forgot that I would probably need my ID. The first club we went to had a
bouncer that was checking ID's, I just told him that I didn't have mine on me but I swore I was 18. He was very hesitant, but Ben worked his magic and I got in. I swear, that kid is amazing. Jacy and I met this kid David and his friends that work at the British museum. It was great to finally interact with some locals, even if it was only for a short while. We then went to another club that was much better for dancing, I got in this one without an ID too because apparently some of them had been there the night before and the bouncer rememberd them and just let us all in. Even one girl that was with us that was only 17, but it was still early so not that many people there. At about 11.30 we went down to planet hollywood, which apparently has an adjacent club called Rex.. or maybe Recks? Regardless, it is ver exclusive, but Ben's dad has a friend that works there and he had called ahead for four, but there were 8 of us. But because the extras were female they just let us in, and for
free! And then Ben was able to get us a bottle of Gray Goose, also for free, that all of us shared. At the end of the night he tipped the owner £40 for getting us in. So we are pretty set for getting back anytime we want. We then went back to the other club on our way home because now there were more people. And better dancing. Some Scotsman offered to buy me a drink, but don't worry, I stuck with my friends mom and dad. We got back to the flats at 3 am, and we left what is considered pretty early. And then I had to get up for a coach tour at 9 this morning. Not that smart, but I won't make it a habit I promise.
Today was the first day that it rained since I was here. Bad idea to wear flip flops, my feet were so cold. We took a 3 hour bus tour that drove us all around the city. I didn't get very many good pictures because it was foggy and my camera kept focusing on the rain drops on the window and not what was beyond it. But
Silhouette
of Big Ben and Parliament I got some good ones when we were allowed to get out for a bit.
When we got back to the flat we realized we had left the windows open and because it rained we had some water to pick up, not too bad though.
observation: They have very strange toilets here, you flush them by pushing a button in the wall. And McDonald's bathrooms are the dirtiest things I have ever seen in my life. It was bad.
