Let me start off by saying....I am now a UK celebrity!!! (ok, not really). But I was quoted in a majority of newspapers the day following my Obama sighting. It was a mass produced story, so they all read the same thing. Here it is:
"Jenna Jabinsky, 20, a student from Long Island, New York, studying communications and business in the capital, said: “We took a lot of blurry pictures but at least we can tell our friends and family we got to see the helicopters first hand, they landed right there.”
Fellow student Darren Goldberg, 21, from New Jersey, said: “We learn all the time about the close relationship between the UK and the US so this is a symbolic and important visit."
There you go...you can all say you knew me when.
So that was printed in the papers on Wednesday. The same day Tara and I pulled a great April Fools joke on the flat and also the day we got to see Obama again and all the other G20 leaders.
Picture it: 2:30am, Wednesday Morning. Tara and I set out alarms to wake up (actually we were still up from the day
April Fools Prank
(In my hamburger PJ'S!!!!!!) before). We enter to kitchen once the rest of the flat has fallen asleep, and begin the prank. We ransack the entire place. Going into every shelf, every drawer, every cabinet. Removing the plates, cups, silverware, pots, pans, spatulas, napkins (oh wait, we don't actually have any of those). Everything and anything is no longer there (except for personal food items). We find secret hiding spots in the flat to relocate the stuff. We take some pictures and then go to sleep. Now keep in mind, I don't have class on Wednesdays, so I plan on sleeping in, while everyone else awakes around 8:30-9 to make themselves breakfast before class.
9:00am arrives, Joe is already out the door for his internship, and my door flings open. It is Kait, she wakes me up. "Darren!!!!! I know it is you, where are all the plates and everything?! It is ALL GONE!" She starts cracking up, realizing how unexpected this was. Although I have been completely woken up, I put on an act of being extremely, extremely tired and dazed: "Whaaaat? What's going on?" Kait: "It's all missing, you did it! Right?" Me: "Kait, what are you talking about? What did
I do?" Kait: "The entire kitchen is wiped out!" Me: "Maybe it was Joe? I don't know, I'm going back to sleep." Kait "Oh, ok sorry. Thought it was you. My mistake." As I lay back down and the door had shut, a smile appeared on my face.
I wake up around 11:30 and Deborah is sitting in the kitchen. "Can you believe what Tara did?" She says. Me: "This was Tara's fault?" Deborah: "Yea, I can't believe she thinks she can fool us. It has to be her. I know it wasn't me or Kait. I know you didn't do it. Or anyone else. Although she probably had help." I offer a suggestion: "Maybe Lindsey?" Deborah: "Hmmm possible. Nobody can fool me, Tara thinks she's all clever....We should get her back." Me: "Sure, I can't believe she did this."
I threw Tara under the bus, but this is April Fools people, every man for himself.
By this time, I am cracking up when she leaves the room. Deborah and I then hide all of Tara's right shoes. Without knowing any of this, Tara decided to post the pictures of us hiding the stuff on the internet.....uh
oh. My cover gets blown and Kait and Deborah freak out. Meanwhile, I am off to see Obama again. (I will return home to a surprise though)
The Queen was holding a tea for all of the leaders, so we positioned ourselves outside the Buckingham Palace and watched as all the Motorcades, including Obama's, drive in. It was pretty cool to see all of the leaders, even though half the time, or more than half, I had no idea who they were. (I also find it funny that my spell check keeps telling me "Obama" is spelled wrong).
After our mini adventure to see the leaders, I arrived home, to find a piece of my underwear sitting on the counter, it had been frozen.
Wednesday night was my friend Emily's 21st, so we went out and gave her a birthday to forget! (ummm I mean remember?)
Transitioning to a completely new topic, I successfully registered for my classes for next semester, and am highly looking forward to my "Wine and Beer Appreciation" class. Monday nights here we come!
Yesterday was a school sponsored trip to Dover. Kait, Victoria, Joe and Christian all heard I was
going, so they signed up as well. (It was actually the other way around). 8:30am we had to be at the school, and being that it was Friday, that time was not ideal. But we did it anyway. The bus took us to Dover and Dungeness. We explored Dover Castle and the White Cliffs, before heading off the Dungeness where we climbed a light house and walked along the beaches. The beaches had no sand on it at all, it was all rocks. It was a pretty cool sight to see. Check out the pics.
Today will include a walk around Little Venice, possibly some tennis with Joe, and then I might go see a show tonight. Whatever happens, be sure you will find out.
Parents arrive this week!!! I am very excited to see them (maybe they will bring August, my dog, as a surprise?) Check out all the pics as there is a special surprise at the end of them.
