[youtube=PiA0GuZzQLM][youtube=SLjs37eT8HM]‘Watch Arsenal play at the Emirates stadium’ had long been on my to do list, so when I found out that a mate from work was a season ticket holder I made sure it was known that I was a big Arsenal fan. With so many matches played in January people don't want/can't afford to go to all games so my workmate found me two tickets to a premiership midweek game between the Gunners and Newcastle. I had converted my flatmate Andre into an Arsenal supporter so he was keen to come too.

We arrived at the ground quite early so we could check out the stadium. We walked around it, it is an impressive structure. This didn't take long though so we had a feed and then a beer before being let in. Our seats were good ones, we had a decent view down over the pitch and were at the right end to watch Arsenal warm up. I was surprised that they put the sprinklers on for about 5 minutes just prior to the game.

Arsenal started strongly and were playing a good passing game, unfortunately near the Newcastle goal they kept coming unstuck by passes being intercepted and a lack of quality shots. Newcastle didn't really threaten at all. Arsenal's dominance finally paid off just before half time with Adebayor scoring a diving header much to the crowds delight. They started chanting 'Adebayor - give him the ball and he will score'. There were plenty of other chants, mostly just Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal. But when Joey Barton came on for Newcastle as a sub he got plenty of abuse, it was his first game since being in prison! The guy in the stands behind us had plenty of thoughts that he wasn't shy of verbalising.

In the second half Arsenal stepped up a gear and scored another two goals (could have been more). One was a well worked move that Fabregas slotted into the top left corner, the other was one of the best strikes I have ever seen. Flamini was a long way out of the box and on quite an angle when he lined up a shot, I remember thinking he'll never score from there. How wrong I was, his shot absolutely scorched past Shay Given the Newcastle keeper into the top right corner and the crowd went berserk.

The tube ride home was a bit of a mission but it was totally worth it. Arsenal are out of all competitions now which is a shame. No-one expected Arsenal to do well this year when Thierry Henry left so we have done alright with a really young squad, hopefully Arsenal's flair will pay off next season and they will start winning some silverware. Hopefully Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea lose every game next year too. (That's gonna get me some abuse!)
