Marching Bands
Perfectly in time The next two whole months were spent in London… well... almost (had to have a couple of excursions out of the big city in the following blogs)
Beth and I had our reunion with the friends that we’d made during our tour through Turkey. My mate Dean from Uni arrived a few days later and I therefore put on my tourist guide hat and showed him around the main sights of London... starting at Oxford Street and Hyde Park of course!
Matt and his flatmates had an awesome idea of having a wall party. Object of the evening: painting a wall - but not by any means ‘normal’ painting. They had rigged up a sheet so no one could judge your artistic abilities… from there you could do for gold… full-on paint throwing thoroughly advised!
The end result was actually pretty good!!
Beth, Helen and I made a good excuse - i.e. Helen’s belated birthday dinner - to check out Hell Pizza that had just opened in Fulham… we ate until we exploded! And gosh it was good!
I also managed to get a little more cultured by going to a few shows including, Les Miserables, Swan
Hamstead Heath
Helen & Hannah Lake at the Royal Albert Hall with Carlo, and a comedy night in Leicester Square with work. Ben also took us to some local up-and-coming band.. not that I can remember their name - but we had a good night!
Leah and I thought we’d go for a relaxing stroll through Regents Park, just for something to do, but when we got there a big festival was on! And that’s the beauty of London, there’s just so much on, you’ll always bump into something!
After being here almost a year, I still have not seen the Queen with my own eyes, that is until the Trooping of the Colours to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.
What a royal event! Literally hundreds of horses and guards marching around Buckingham Palace, The Mall and the Royal Guards Parade. There were even the royal marching bands and those guys in the funny hats.
We not only got to see Her Majesty the Queen, but also Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince Charles and Prince William, Eugenie and a few others.
You know those people you see in photos standing on the edge of the road waving as the Queen and other royals go past?
Wall Party
Hannah gets her paints ready to splatter the wall Well that was totally us!
That evening, we went to Michelle’s 80s themed birthday party. Big hair, bright fluorescent colours - hideous to the extreme! But we had fun looking like idiots in central London :P
Before we knew it, Clay and Angela (aka Clange) arrived in London after their extended travels through South Africa and beyond. Leah and I had an early wake up to get to the airport in time… arriving just as they walked through the gate (feww!) holding our “Clange” banner like tour operators.
Leah and I had to take them on our standard ‘Welcome to London Tour’ but ended at the new Haagen-Dazs ice-cream café in Leicester Square - and oh my gosh! What a place - full on ice-cream desserts... Leah and I were in heaven!
A few weeks later we all ventured into Leicester Square (seems like everything happens here) for West End Live - a weekend long festival that has performances from all the major West End Shows, such as The Lion King, Les Miserables, Lord of The Rings, Dirty Dancing, Stomp, Avenue Q etc etc - most entertaining and whats better - free!
