We have had to pass through the UK 3 separate times this trip and it isn't absolutely certain that we won't do so again. In any case, this post picks up on what went on, just for the sake of being complete – because we are habitually neat and tidy people(!). We started this four- month trip with a 20 hour flight to Dublin via Abu Dhabi, because Etihad had a very good deal on tickets, and when you can get a good deal over that distance it is well worth consideration. It was also handy that Ireland was a priority for us. Dublin is well serviced by airlines but we needed to get to and from Greece and to and from Morocco. After careful research, investigation and analysis by the member of this team that ... read more

Last blog entry from me! It has been an amazing 6 months of which I have some fantastic memories. I have learnt so much and feel so lucky to have experienced some of the things I have and met some of the people that I have. It is such an eye opener to see how some of the people in this world live and what they have to go through each day just to get by. I realise now how much I take for granted. Obviously all these highs are not without some lows. I remember someone saying to me the night before I came away to always remember that tomorrow is a different day and I didn't take too much notice at the time but I soon learnt how true it was. There were some ... read more

Hiya! You alright? It's quite nice here, but I heard it's bloody hot in Texas. Yesterday I toured the city and it was the dogs bollocks! After all that walking around, I was buggered! I thought I'd be cheeky and brag on about all the new slang I've learned...but now I'll write so you can understand me. =) I purchased an all-day pass for the London Underground, referred to by the locals as The Tube. I got off at the Westminster station and walked along the River Thames. Located around the Thames in Westminster are the Houses of Lords, Commons and Parliament. As well as Westminster Abbey, the London Eye, Victoria Tower and Big Ben. Not too far of a walk is Trafalgar Square which houses art galleries such as the National Gallery. Hope you enjoy ... read more

Today is Kate's birthday, my cousin Rosemarie's oldest daughter. Today she turns 22. :) HAPPY BDAY KATE! :) Yesterday Kate, Eoin (pronounced Owen) and I went for a walk downtown & around Ilford. Last night we went out to the Harvester Restaurant & Pub for Kate's birthday, along with Kathy (a family friend for many years; used to live next door) and Lesley and Callum (sp? more friends!). We not only had a delicious, filling meal, but we had a lot of fun, taking goofy pictures which I'll get posted asap. :) Kate, Naimh ("Neeve"), Kathy and I cracked up at our end of the big table....and I know the others had a good time, too! By the time we left, everyone was stuffed, especially me, having eaten a combo plate of bbq ribs & chicken...only ... read more

Oooh, 2 entries in one day...! I'm doing so because it's my last night in Ilford...and I have no clue whether there will be internet service upon arrival to Romania...so in case, I thought I'd do a quickie now. Kate, Niamh (I was spelling it wrong before - oops!) and I went to the Red Cow pub, and we had a couple drinks and played some pool. Rosemarie joined us after we'd been there a bit, and we played for a couple games, old vs young....then we teamed up as oldest/youngest vs middle-aged! Fun...very fun... :) We then came home, and unbeknownst to Kate, Niamh took her out to meet a few friends for dinner/drinks. Rosemarie made an amazing meal for her, me, Eoin and Micheal (spelled wrong, too!) of curried chicken on rice that was ... read more

I feel like I have a lot to catch you all up on - and it's only been a couple days! And...I just got my first complaint, asking, "where's the update?" First things first - my cousin Rosemarie brought to my attention a "typo" / mistake from a previous blog, and it's one that needs to be corrected. I mentioned Aunt Brigid, my great aunt in Derby, as being "my mom's mom." Uhm, well...since she's a nun, this is not the case! :) Soooo, to clarify, and to relieve our family from future scandal, Aunt Brigid is my mom's mom's sister - or more simply put, my gram's sister. While I'm in "confuse the reader" mode, let me explain how my cousin Rosemarie and I are related: My mom's mom (gram) was 1 of 6 children, ... read more
