C for Chloe
We found these giant letters at a college and Gabi had the brilliant idea to get a picture with our letter...I thought it was cool. Hey everybody!
March 2/09
Well, the past week was extremely busy, felt like a lot busier than usual but anyhow, survived although at the moment still a bit run down. I had one youth panel for a young girl which was very interesting. I have really enjoyed the panels and so far, they haven't been difficult to the point where we refer back to court which is definately good. I did my volunteer work at the charity shop and had a rather interesting day setting off the smoke alarm while dusting off all the cobwebs everywhere! Apparently nobody else cared that it was disgusting so I found a duster and went for it, lesson to be learned - turn off heaters when dusting nearby! Also, a 30's male helped himself to a few pairs of shoes and someone reported it to the manageress. She chased after him and when he started running, she decided to head back and call the police. They have CCTV everywhere here so they caught up to him shortly afterwards, bringing him into the store for a discussion. They couldn't/wouldn't charge him for the theft but did a bit of public humiliation by taking him to
Painted Hall, Greenwich
The colors are a bit faded in this picture but you get a better idea of how big this hall is and what it contains...incredible! a few other charity shops on the high stret. He won't be allowed in our shop again. So, that was the most interesting day I've had volunteering there.
Other than that, the weather has bounced between really lovely and really awful so there were park days this week which was fun. ALex had horse riding lessons the past 2 Thursdays and I went to watch him last week. The horses were sooo nice and it made me feel like I was in Canada again. I really want to get a lesson and ride around in their woods, it would be super cool but we will see, I still have a long list of places to see! The only difference that I noticed was that everybody wore a helmet and they don't have a horn on the saddle to hold onto. Lynne and I had some yummy carrot cake while watching all the riders, goooood stuff!
On Saturday I went to the Daughters of Destiny, Women's Conference in Westminster. The lady speaker was Mary Audrey Raycroft, a fellow Canadian who is associated with the Toronto Airport Fellowship Church/Ministry and she was quite funny. I think all the English
Greenwich - Prime Meridian
Clocks were everywhere, little clock museum, history lessons to be learned too! Very interesting town/village or whatever they call them here. folks are really going to think all of us Canadians are a bit odd! Haha, anyways - it was a great time of worship and learning with loads of other women. I went with Mati, a girl from the church who is also friends with Mark/Hannah and we've become buddies for these things which is cool. I had promised HOlly and Jonathon, Dave's other two kids from Ireland that I would make them scarves for the ski trip in April so I realized it was due time to get started. I have been knitting up a storm to catch up with my to do' and now Luke wants one too! Yikes, unfortunately he will be the last to get his but I will make him one too. Saturday evening I finally got myself together and went to Emma and Karen's birthday party. Emma is Hannah's sister and Karen is Hannah's mom...all related as you can see. SO, it was a good visit with the live music band from the wedding although personally, it's not the music for me. I caught up mostly with Mark and a few of the other people from the church so that was good. After about
View of Greenwich
This is at the top of the hill overlooking part of Greenwich, you can see the Queen's Palace (not in use now) and then across farther towards the top is the Royal Naval Museum and there is also a large college which houses Trinity Music College...wonderful to visit! an hour or so, it was enough time for this party animal (NOT) and I wanted to go home so I left for a good night's sleep.
Sunday morning I woke up and played with the kids, made them their first ever Rice Krispy Squares! I caught up with Gabi around 10:30 and we went to my church to hear Mary Raycroft preach. Gabi hasn't been to my church before so it was cool that she got to come. We had planned a picnic but the weather got rather nasty during church so we came back to my house to stay warm, watched a movie, ate our picnic lunch and chatted about Hungary. Good times. The rest of my afternoon/evening was spent on the phone, organizing my room, knitting and trying to rest.
March 9/09
My week went by pretty slow but generally, it was pretty normal. The weekend brought some new adventures - went to Greenwich with Gabi which was a total blast. We visited a bunch of neat places there, Royal Naval Museum, Planetarium (watched a cool show of the night sky) and checked out the Prime Meridian in Greenwich (GMT) which was a great experience. We packed in a ton of stuff during the day and I even got some Canada - one of the bus stops/tube stations is Canada Water so it was pretty neat, definately want to go there sometime another day! Anyhow, the short story is that it was a terrific day learning stuff. The painted hall in Greenwich was probably one of my favorite highlights too, gorgeous paintings....wow!
Sunday it was another busy day out, this time we went to London (Gabi and I). We planned to watch the ST. Patrick's day parade but ended up in Trafalgar Square for the Irish music instead. We waited an hour, listened to the music for 15 mins before trying to find a spot on the busy streets to watch the parade. It was crazy and we gave up trying to see anything after about 20 minutes. I will post some of my videos on youtube soon. After the St. Patrick's day stuff (early because it wasn't the actual day until Tuesday) we went to Petticoat Lane Market, introduced G to my fav shopping area which she loved too. We also went to Oxford Street before attending the evening service at Hillsong Church London. The pastor from the HIllsong Church in Sydney, Australia was speaking which was cool b/c I went to that church when I stayed with my Aunt Lyn and Uncle Dave in Sydney about 5 years ago. The church is in the Dominion Theatre which is amazing too. The lights, music, volunteers and everything were great so I definately want to go there again! The place was packed, we had to all move around during the worship part of the service to make room for the people standing. After the service we had got the buses back home and that was my day!
In the last two days, I've attended and completed another youth offending panel which was an interesting case, long referral order so we'll see how she makes out. I also met up with a Canadian Aupair, Kim from Toronto on Monday so that was good. It's neat meeting people, especially now that some of my other friends have gone home. So, tonight was rather interesting. Just normal stuff for the most part but Lynne ended up being taken in an ambulance to the hospital for an allergic reaction to something unknown, she could hardly breathe and her face went all red, not so great! So, I'm just at home typing away, kids are sleeping and Dave and Luke are both making their ways to the hospital to see how she is. I will find out in time, as usual. I will keep you posted on the rest of my stories at some point, possibly next week! Hugs to you, Chloe
