I have been lucky to meet some wonderful people last week, plus spend quality time with my friend Kathryn - also from Hervey Bay. Here are some pictures from my last morning walk after breakfast, plus my tutors and fellow attendees at our final session. We have had a bit of a shamozzle with our Ryanair flights as Ryanair has cancelled many flights in order to force staff to take annual leave. Unfortunately, our flight from Stansted to Carcassone was one of the ones cancelled, so I am now on a coach from Stansted Airport to Gatwick Airport, in order to catch a 2pm EzyJet flight to Toulouse. From Toulouse, we have to get to Carcassone, over an hours drive away, to get to our pre-booked hotel in Carcassone. We have a few days in Carcassone ... read more

The Emirates Lounge in Brisbane Airport is right at the end of the terminal, opposite the gate, so we sat in there until we boarded (directly from the lounge) at 2am. The aircraft was a 777-300ER, with a seat configuration of the 2 seats beside the window. The first flight to SIN was very calm and night time. The seats were very hard though and didn’t go completely flat so we didn’t sleep that well. Meals were Light Bites and I had pan fried chicken gyoza and Shelley had a wagyu beef pie. For breakfast, we both had cheese and chive omelette. We were half an hour late into SIN and had an hour and a half refuelling stop so we walked around the shops. We re-boarded the same plane and had the same seats for ... read more

AA flight was delayed a few minutes. Keen to be puntual (or to give a hard time to those who are late) might still be a good thing. Anyhow, the flight was fine; a bit cold, a bit hungry, a bit bored. That's the AA experience anyhow. Arriving Stansted airport, we ran into huge queues in immigration. Looks like 4 or 5 plane load of people arrived all at the same time. When confusion threw you having to take the little train from a building to the main building to get to your luggages, coming out of the train and seeing this sea of people really not moving much is a good start to your holiday! Anyhow, what seems like half a day, we finally reassembled with our luggages. Only to face an impossible task of ... read more

Drove to Stansted Long Stay Car Park. Pre-booked ticket didn’t work. The car park people said via intercom that they couldn’t download details for our paid-up information. She said when we leave, we should go to the cashier and show them our paid-up voucher, so that we can exit without paying. We were very early before AA check-in opens. We had special all day breakst at Ponti’s. We tried the baggage weighing machine, paid 50p to weigh our larger luggage, 18,6kg. Relieve, when I paid for 20kg. Scheduled check-in should open at 1425. We found out check-in area at about 1435. Went there at discovered almost everybody had queued up. Difficult to find the baggage drop counter but eventually found it. Alboust 15 people already in the queue, and after about 10 minutes, about another 20 ... read more

Some years ago there was an entertaining movie about a couple of chaps attempting the impossible in which their dual goals were to travel a comparatively short distance during a period of relatively extreme weather conditions in order to achieve self fulfilment at a very special time of the year. Steve Martin & John Candy made the world chuckle as Mother Nature and an unfortunate sequence of circumstances battled to defeat them. Their story is re-told today. Although the cast location & timescale are changed, the modes of transport & eventual happy ending remain the same. The first stage of our most recent jaunt to the Far East had gone well. A ride from the Cold Place up north in a taxi to a station led us to the next leg involving just one change of ... read more

Hey everyone! Im sitting here with Bryan at Stansted, which is actually a very nice airport! Doesnt look like much at first, but you come up to the level with all the gates and its cozy, with restaurants and music and stuff. Definetely not PHL, or LHR for that matter. It is big, but not comparable to LHR. Above us in the dining seating area, there are digital screens with our flight info on it telling us when go to the gate and such.. very cool, no worries. Even though our gate is a foot away anyway. Despite the surroundings, I think Bryan and I (one of us more than the other... can you guess who?) are a little cranky and tired, not wanting to do this all over again. We not only paid 85 pounds ... read more

Everything has a beginning, and for my trip to Copenhagen, the beginning takes place in Stansted Airport. This is my first trip out of the UK ever since I arrived at UK at the end of July. (I'm working in Slough for 18 months from August 2007.) I chose Copenhagen as my first "out-of-UK" trip because my cousin was having student exchange there and I wanted to visit him. Being budget-conscious, my friends and I decided to take a budget flight from London to Copenhagen. Out of the numerous airports in South East England, Heathrow is the nearest to my home, but unfortunately there's no budget carriers operating from Heathrow. So we chose a Easyjet flight from Stansted to Copenhagen. To maximise our time in Copenhagen, we decided to take an early flight (departing Stansted at ... read more

Hello everyone. Just got a whole bunch of photos from Morgans party (and luckily none of Phil in drag....again) Just finished our time with Traceys family in Nuneaton (or Ansley Village -NOT COMMON!...apparently.) It was great to relax for a couple of days. Ive not been feeling too great for the last couple of days, so it was nice to be around people you know. We went out for dinner the first night and back to the club for a couple of drinks. Unfortunately we were both still pretty jetlagged so our conversation skills werent the best and headed off to bed about 12. Didnt sleep any of the first night so had a sleep in till lunchtime the next day. Then Pat and Eddies friend Ann took us 'downtown' to Nuneatons shopping area for a ... read more

It feels a kind of relief, yet at the same time a certain bore, to be among native English speakers again. It has been over two months. I am on the Ryanair flight from Venice that is readying to pull into the gate at Stansted Airport. Though I was one of the last people to board the plane, I got a seat in the second row. I grab my bag from the overhead luggage bin and ready myself, brow scrunched, eyes focused, body wound up like an Olympic sprinter. As originally scheduled, I would have 30 minutes to get from tarmac to train. But the plane was 20 minutes late taking off. I think 10 minutes is an impossible amount of time to de-plane, get through passport control, pick up my train ticket and find the ... read more
