So Sunday 7th Feb we got up early to leave Phuket, now we hadn't actually planned any transport back to Bangkok as the agency bus ticket prices were ridiculous so we decided to just go to the bus station ourselves and hope for the best, which worked! Got tickets for a 15 hour bus ride to Bangkok for under £10 each! Bus left around lunchtime , journey was ok, air conditioning broke for a while which wasn't pleasant, but we managed to sleep for a few hours before arriving in Bangkok around 3am! Hello everyone! Just though I would write our first message since you have all very kindly signed up! I thought I would update you all on our plans. We are currently planning to leave at the start of September. We decided not to book a round-the-world flight with set dates as we felt this would restrict us too much, so we are not really planning too much and booking too much in advance which is rather scary! We have a rough idea of where we want to go which is to head through Northern Europe by bus/train for a few weeks up to St Petersberg where we will start the trans-mongolian journey through Russia with a stop in Moscow plus some other Russia towns that we haven't decided on yet. Tommorrow, early morning, i depart the UK for the somewhat more tropical climate of malaysia. Leaving the chavs and wags of england! A 48 hour journey that will take me from heathrow to bangkok. Then from bangkok to kuala lumpur, and then onto kota kinabalu in the borneo province of sabah. Fully stocked up by £30 of cheapness spent down my local primark! Clothes fit for a king! Ready for the mosquitoes, bearded pigs, angry ants and oranguatans! I land at kota kinabalu practically at midnight on the 12th. On the 13th i already have my first piece of itinery planned. Im going to be climbing one of the highest points in south east asia, otherwise known as mt kinabalu. 20th March 2008 We landed at heathrow back to 7 degree weather it was 6.30am and after 13 hours we were very tired indeed. we were picked up by a taxi company and finally got home about 8.30am. My dad was there but my mum was at work, she didnt know we were coming home it was a surprise. Once in and after a nice hot bath I headed straight round to my friend Zoe (none of my friends new I was coming home) Zoe had just had her baby George a few days before, I was so excited about seeing them both. Well with 28 days to go me and matt are getting very excited. We have now handed our notice in at work so the clock is just ticking now. Nearly got all our bits together for travels, need to do the whole, first aid kit, and all the travel essentials shop soon. And start packing up our flat for storage its all GO GO GO !!!... read more
