On Saturday, Katie and I took a trip to Chatsworth in Derbyshire where Mr. Darcy's house of Pemberly was set for the 2005 production of Pride and Prejudice. We had trouble catching a bus into town as one of then didn't come so we waited like 20 minutes for the bus. But we arrived at the station in time and left Nottingham at 8:55 and arrived in Chesterfield 40 minutes later. The bus was really nice and had a lot of leg room. If the ride would have been longer I could have easily and comfortably fallen asleep. Chatsworth didn't open until 11 and was still about 8 miles away so we looked at the market that was set up in Chesterfield Town Center. Have just returned from my oasis trainging week where I have met lots of very lovely people, and have had lots of lectures to prepare me for when I get out to India. Hardwick Hall is now a National Trust property which neither of us knew anything about and was a change of plan to our previously thought out itinerary. Nevertheless, after another hearty breakfast, we got some directions from our hostess and discovered that it was, in fact, only about 15 miles from the house. Armed with raincoats and camera, we set out across country with great anticipation. What a treat it turned out to be! It is one of Britain's finest Elizabethan houses built for Elizabeth, Dowager Countess of Shrewsbury, who moved into the hall in October 1597.
