Aqueduct 1 004
There are two bridges, the car bridge and the people bridge. The car bridge can be wound up and down to let the long boats pass by. Today we headed off with Carrie and Alex to the Lakes District.
Our first stop was at The aqueduct called, Pontcysyllte. This is an amazing engineering feat. The canal is suspended on a huge brige across a river. You can walk across the aqueduct (it is very high). The aqueduct carries the Llangollen canal 39metres above the River Dee. It is a monument to the Industrial Revolution and to its designers, Thomas Telford and William Jessop. Steve and I were amazed at this fantastic construction and enjoyed walking along it and watching the long boats pass over it along the canal. One of the long boats carried some lads who were on their bucks night and they were all dressed in pirate costumes.
We then continued on to the Lakes District, via Kendal. We arrived at Bowness and had our picnic lunch on the bank of Lake Windemere. It was very sunny and warm!!!
We arrived at Cherry Garth Cottage at around 3pm. The Cottage is lovely and very well positioned. We dropped the luggage in and then went for a lovely long walk to explore the Township and arrived back at 6.30pm. The little streets and shops are fascinating and
the walk through the park and along the Lake was lovely.
At 7pm we had fish and chips, outside in the setting sun, by the Lake. It was a lovely evening. We have been very lucky with the weather so far.
