Today, breakfast doesn't start until 7.30am, so time for a sleep in, well if only I could sleep, coughing all night, hopefully I can shove thus bug where it fits, I never get sick, but obviously a change in pace from work, being tired and run down, it had to catch up! We went downstairs for breakfast, lovely hot coffee, we had a great choice of foods once again!
Our train departure today is at 12.15pm, so we had time to wander the streets of Zermatt.
We rang Katie and Ross on face time, Michael was there too and showed them through the town, it was -10 whist we were walking, so holding onto the phone, my fingers froze many times. It was a beautiful crisp morning. After this, we wandered through other streets, found the iceskating rink, went through the Zermatt Church, which was so warm, and checked out a few of the shops along the way back.
We checked out of the Hotel, and walked 150m to the train station, we were early and there was a train waiting to go to Visp, so we jumped on this one so we could get to Lausanne a half an
hour earlier!
Along the way, we travelled through many valleys with the Alps on either side of us, amazing to see so many houses perched so high up, and they looked like huge houses. The landscape started to appear with many vineyards, obviously a great wine growing region of Switzerland. We came through the township of Montreaux, this is where a lot of music/jazz festivals are held, we have many music DVDs which have been filmed here, but not in January, must be too cold for them!! Not long after here, we hit the edge of Lake Geneva, and soon after, we came across Chillon Castle, which is a Medieval Castle from the 14th century. The Alps you see across the other side of the lake are on the French side, Lake Geneva is split with Switzerland one side and France on the other.
I was messaging Jules along the way as to where the girls could go shopping, as they were desperate to spend their money, Nikki had checked out a Harbourtown type of place out from Lausanne, but to get there was going to cost 26swiss francs per person a round trip, he also suggested another place not
far from where we shopped last week.
We arrived into Lausanne, here it was only -3 degrees, and again we are staying at the same Hotel, up the same road, up that horrible "hill". Out of breath once again, we took a few minutes to catch our breath! You think with all our walking, we would be fit, but it's something about the cold air as well that affects your breathing. This time we have 2 rooms facing the city, with a small balcony, but with a nice view down the street (of that horrible "hill"😉 with Lake Geneva in the background.
We headed further up the hill, found the shopping area where Jules had told us about, and we all split up, the girls sticking together and hopefully going to have fun shopping. I headed into a place kind of like Myers, a department store with many levels, so hot in this place but people still rugged up in their jackets. Clint had told me I had to buy myself a Swiss Watch, and found the one I had been looking at in the stores 50% off sale!!
Ventured outside to cool down, there was so many shops around here with
laneways leading off everywhere.
Clint had headed back to the hotel, I was becoming cold just wandering and the girls messaged to say they were ready to go back to the hotel, and I was happy!
For dinner, we went 50m up the hill, we had Doner Kebabs which were so huge, only could eat half, the rest we're saving for breakfast! We had dinner with the girls in their room, and after, we went to our room for a quiet drink!
