We awoke early, ( surprise surprise!!) and went out walking, exploring in a different direction in search fir breakfast. This area seemed to be more residential area as there wasn't many food shops around. We managed to find a bakery though. Lucerne is a German speaking town, so this bakery was a German one, lots of small hand made biscuits and petit cakes. We headed back towards the River, the girls left us to go back to the Hotel, while we crossed the Chapel Bridge one more time to find some souvenir shops. Back to our room to check out, crossed the road for the Train Station and found our Platform, this time we are headed to Interlaken on the Golden Pass Panoramic train. The train had not arrived as yet, we waited nearby and then we spotted the people who were on our train yesterday from Toowoomba. They also were headed to Interlaken, but staying about 15 mins away. We found our carriage, we had 1st class allocated seats for this sector, went to find our seats and yes, we were sitting right next to these people!!! What are the chances! We were chatting along the way about
the cost of Australia's train system, like the Indian express and the Ghan as to how expensive these train are compared to travelling through Europe, when Clint mentioned that he had been installing curtains in the Ghan recently, when the lady said "she was a curtain manufacturer!" What are the chances!! At this stage we still didn't even know their names! So Veronica and John now suddenly became our friends, swapping stories about the curtain industry!! Veronica has been in this industry for 1 month longer than me, (31 years!)
The view along this route was spectacular, the train winding through and up and around the mountains, sometimes with long drops over the side. The closer we got to Interlaken, there was a lot more snow and we were passing massive lakes, travelling right on the waters edge!
We arrived at 11.55am, said goodbye to Veronica and John and we got the local bus to our hotel, this hotel was about 500m away from the train station, and a bit hard to drag the bags through the slushy snow.
Our Hotel, 'Royal Hotel St Georges' was a very graceful Hotel, as we got there early, before check in time, we left
our bags and we walked and explored, this time as the snow fell, it was beautiful. There are many shops along this road, can not believe how many watch places exist in one town! We spent an hour or so wandering before finding a small takeaway/ dine in restaurant and felt we needed to warm up with something warm to eat. Clint and I shared a pizza, Melanie has a kebab wrap, and Nikki had spaghetti Bolognese, shared a bowl of hot chips too and we even had a glass of wine! The food here was fantastic.
We then went back to check in, unpack but then we went back shopping, today has been our only free day where we could do what we want! So back down the long road again, still snowing as we walked. There was like a Winter Wonderland park, a huge Ice Skating rink with hundreds of people having fun.
For Dinner, Clint and I went back again to the main shopping street in search of somewhere nice to eat, we had seen a place on the corner near the other train station which said it was the best place to eat in Interlaken so
we went in, called Bebbis, it was full of Korean/ Chinese tourist, we sat near the window and then we met Bebbis, this guy was a crazy dude, his motto was to make it fun while you're eating! He started with 1 restaurant, then 2, but now has 3 restaurants, so he's doing something right. He sings songs, turns the music up and down, starts people clapping, stirs the kids up, just has fun in general. The meal was really good too.
Melanie and Nikki didn't come with us for dinner, they opted to find food from somewhere else and ate it back in the room. I sat up writing the travelpod journal, but couldn't keep my eyes open so lights out by about 9.30pm!
