me cold, beer somehow quite warm?!
So I just got back from Verbier, after a weeks snowboarding with my girlfriend and her family...and what a week! Firstly, it snowed a lot, hugely increasing the chance of me falling in the bad visibility and breaking something...which would not be good considering the trip coming up in a weeks time..! luckily icy patches avoided fairly successfully, and few sketchy moments! :-) verbier was nice, good accomodation, good shops, bars etc.. everything was on the expenisve side but that was obviously because of the wealth of many visitors to the resort...als still swears she saw doug richards - dragons den..! this also meant that a lot of people were really rude! if someone accidentally knocks into you in verbier, do not expect an apology! the 4 valleys meant there was quite a bit of choice in terms of where to ski but some areas were pretty difficult to get to..

anyway drove through the night for 16 hours (big effort) and finally arrived in verbier early enough to fit in an extra day on the slopes! so we got jk some boots to go with his slightly better than average burton custom board and headed down to the nursery

a long way down, calfs hurt so much after the traverse down the steep moguls.. :-(
slopes to do some teaching... he picked it up really quickly, using the button lifts and traversing easily.. so we then took him up a red on his first afternoon after no sleep...needless to say his ass was sore! and progress was slow! but he stuck at it and within a few days on the nursey slope with ski school he could link turns and was pretty good so it didnt do too much damage!

the mornings for the first 4 days produced sun and on the 14th (valentines) ali and I found some off piste deep powder in the glacier to have a picnic in which was awesome, apart from eating raw cabbage thinking it was iceburg lettuce :-( noone told me! we did a few steep black mogels early in proceedings which was good, getting some good vids of me flying past with a few lethargic turns on the steeper sections - als agreed that i boarded exactly how i drive! with the weather closing in for the second half of the week it was good to have got all this done.. nevertheless we perservered with the cold misty snowy conditions, oftem stopping for some beverages and

raw cabbage looks like iceburg lettuce but isnt as tasty, so dont put it in sandwiches
crepes...tasty! :-)

it was really nice spending time with als before i go away for 5 months, think we both really appreciated it, and just every day was perfect with her... valentines day was a success (again apart from the raw cabbage in the sandwiches), and undoubtedly scuba will never be forgotten! she knows how much i'm going to miss her, but will be awesome coming back in early august to her smiling face!

also her family were so generous with everything and were such good company! really kind of them! on thursday night lettie, jk, als and myself headed out for a mexican style meal - so fantastic, then on for a night out on the town, sampling the numerous drinking establishments... beveraging laws applied as did god save the queen.. obviously the night was a heavy one, chanting was standard (green street - lets go ****ing mental, really couldnt have looked more like english hooligans!) and the evening concluded with us all pushing some aussie guys' car up the entirety of the hill back to our apartment...i loved every second of it as apparently at the time i was realing off the english ashes heroes names...vaguely

he looked slightly worse off after a few more of those bevarages, poor lettie
remember paul collingwood being shouted at the top?!

so its a week until the flight out to bangkok and then the adventure begins, will still says he isnt excited - blatant liar, and si is preparing the practical jokes already, i can sense it!
next post from thailand....we hope! :-s

hey mate, looks like you had fun. just wanted to remind you of the the 1st skip trip in 2000 where you wore that brown/red beanie you're wearing in one of the pics: remember that you wore it for the 1st few days the wrong way round like a hunter hat! haha. was classic :) cool blog, too
