Hello everyone, So two weekends after we got back from Ireland, Tero, Luuk and Ezri - two Dutch friends of mine, and I decided to go to Geneva for a weekend. Other students had raved about how great the city was, so we all decided to take a trip there. Unfortunately we missed the world car show that was going on by one week, but we still had a nice couple of days in Geneva. Oh, before I start, for anyone who wants to go to Geneva, make sure you save all of the pennies from your piggy bank, because it is crazy expensive. This puts things in perspective; imagine trying to find the cheapest meal possible, so you pull into the local Burger King - not my idea of food, but sometimes you've got ... read more

Well as you've probably gueseed the snow wasn't great. But we skied every day :) It all started with chaos, Liverpool was closed (fog bound) so we dashed to Luton. We lost the afternoon's skiing we hoped for, and had to get the earlier flight as we now had to drive 4 hours home. the Hotel was reasonable, a bit 80's but comfy. http://www.central-residence.ch/En/ we wondered down into the village to see what was about. Great coffee / cake as you would expect. We caught the Tete D' Ai chair lift for ourt first run, Sian was fine a bit nervous which was understandable considering the conditions. Icy and rocky :( We had lunch at the Kuklos http://www.teleleysin.ch/Fr/ete/index.html which was a glorious sight in the sun. A bit on the green side unfortunately but great views!! ... read more

On the way to Gsteid to ski and came across the balloon festival. Perfect sunny day for pictures. Had champers and a superb steak sandwich for lunch. Went to Gstaad. Bought a fridge magnet for CHF 18!! That being the only thing I can afford in 'blink' 'blink' Gstaad. Stayed overnight at the cheaper neighbour - Gsteid (even the name sound poorer), and ski the following day at Glasier 3000 with TP, IC and MC. No post for that - left the stupid camera in the car, but the view at the top was magnificent. However, the pistes were ordinary and the facilities were not very ski friendly. Had the longest red (approx. 7kms) but nothing memorable otherwise. Glasier skiing? Done that , probably not for sometime.... ... read more

What a whirlwind of a trip to Geneva. This is one of the reasons I decided to stay in Spain - to take advantage of being able to be in another European country in two hours. Firstly, I have to admit I woke up on Saturday morning not really wanting to take a flight anywhere, after a long week. But I made myself go, and was half-dozing off in the plane until for some reason I felt like opening the window shutter and boy was I reminded of why I love travelling. We were just flying past the Swiss Alps and the view was awesome. I don't know if these pictures even capture half of the feeling but it's so good to see stuff that you've read about and seen in magazines, on tv, etc. I ... read more

A víz mindenhol kristálytiszta, mondjuk mi... read more

On my last weekend before starting work, I traveled to Geneva with Ben and Kara to see my friend Sarah in a pantomime. She was the female lead in an amateur production of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves. The picture shows (anticlockwise from top left corner): *Sarah's fans in the foyer *Sarah (Elly) and Ali Baba * The cast *Elly and her prince Yes - I know the 'prince' is a chick. It is a pantomime tradition that the male lead is played by a chick. Similarly, Elly's mum was played by a man - another tradition. This particular pantomime followed all of the pantomime traditions. There was an 'animal' - humpy the camel, a sing-a-long (entirely unrelated to the script) and, of course, audience participation. The kiddies loved it. Who am I kidding? We ... read more

Geo: 46.3055, 6.18535Had a great sleep last night, despite waking up at 6:00 AM. I did wake up for a short while during the middle of the nigh,t but I still managed to get a decent number of hours of sleep. I lay in bed trying to sleep longer, but gave up at 8:15, or so. The hostel had a really great breakfast. Cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, cereal, and great bread. I ate with David and Melissa, a girl from Singapore that works in the TV industry. It sounds like she's traveled to some great places in Asia. It's a small world - after David left the hostel I got to talking with Stephen, the other bunkmate from Southeast Asia. He's also presenting at the computer science conference that David is presenting at. I told him ... read more

First of all, I am pleasantly surprised at how much to do there is in a relatively “small” German city. I’ve been out so many of these nights and done something totally different each night. And school hasn’t even started for the regular German students attending university…they actually don’t even start until the end of October. This is a good sign. So, this week has been really busy. Last Saturday began ridiculously with a make-up class. Seeing everyone roll up that morning ready to learn was hilarious. But IES redeemed themselves with a trip to France in the afternoon. We took the party bus to this giant castle on top of this mountain called Le Haut Kosnigsbourg. Although it was a complete touristfest the castle did boast a stunning view of Alsace, France and we lucked ... read more
