I have to say that we had a great time on our holidays to visit the Blankenstyn's in the Netherlands and to visit Dorothee in Germany. The only downer of the trip happened shortly after we arrived to Legoland - just outside of Ulm, Germany. Avery went to change Myles and he had a scary-looking rash all over his bum. The situation got worse as the day progressed and he ended up scratching a fair bit Friday night. We drove home Saturday and decided that we needed to get Myles checked out. We went to the emergency children's part of the hospital in Geneva. It turns out that Myles has chicken pox.
His diagnosis was not definitive at first. It took 3 different doctors coming into the room to tell us that he had chicken pox. The reason that it was so severe for Myles was because Myles also has eczema. The pox appeared on Myles Friday and Isabelle's pox just appeared today. It is official - 2 children under 4 with chicken pox. The bright side is that it is better to get the pox over and done with now. Plus, Isabelle has gotten very few pox.
We
Europa Park.
At Europa Park, Isabelle wanted to see all of the characters. We bought her a snow globe with Euromausi in it. This was not a good idea, as Isabelle broke the globe. We then bought her a stuffed animal of Euromausi. started our vacation spending some time in the Black Forest. We went to Titisee/Neustadt and we really enjoyed being in the Black Forest. We wished that we would have spent some more time there. It would be a beautiful place to do some hiking. It also kind of reminded us of Switzerland. While in the Black Forest we had to check out some cuckoo clocks. In the shops we heard a lot of Australian accents - as this must have been one of the stops on their tour. We had a nice little room in a hostel and we were thinking that it would be a nice peaceful stay. It was, however, at 8:00 pm a Spanish tour bus rolled it and livened up the joint. We must have picked the tourist trap.
After visiting the Black Forest, we drove to Rust to check out Europa Park. Some people have said to us that they prefer Europa Park to Disneyland. We sure enjoyed Europa Park and we were impressed with all of the rides that the kids were able to do. There were even a lot of things for Myles to do. We were also impressed with the grounds
Europa Park.
Myles drove this car all by himself. - they were incredible and decorated for Easter. The only downer on this day was that it rained all day and by the end of the day we were soaking wet. As the day was winding down and we were leaving the park, I ran into one of my students from Switzerland. I can't say that I have ever seen one of my students in another country.
We finally dried out and then we drove north-west to Kerkrade (Netherlands) to visit the Blankenstyn's. All we did was visit, watch the kids play, eat and play games. It was nice and relaxing to visit with them. I hadn't seen Mark in 9 years, so it was nice to catch up with them. It was definitely a great time. Plus, Myles was in heaven as they have 3 girls. A lot of girls for Myles to charm.
Leaving the Netherlands, we drove to Gronau/Leine which is just south of Hannover. Here we visited Dorothee, who is a family friend. We did a little bit more sight-seeing when we were with Dorothee, however we did a lot of visiting as well. This trip was a good time to relax and to
Hotel Coliseo.
We ate breakfast here and found a bathroom made for little people. visit. We went to the zoo in Hannover and we were really impressed with the proximity to the animals. You could get up close to the animals. At one point an elephant reached out her trunk and Isabelle was able to touch the trunk. Isabelle loved this. Dorothee toured us around Gronau and her area a little as well. I tried a local drink from Gronau called Lockstedter. This is drink that is produced in Gronau. I can't say that it was my favorite drink. It burned a little too much for my liking.
To end the trip, we went to Legoland. This was a neat place to go. My favorite thing about Legoland was all of the things that were made out of Lego. I wonder how many pieces of Lego were used to make all of that stuff. I'm sure that I could find that out somewhere. I thought to myself that that would be a fun job - building Lego stuff all day. We also stopped in Wurzburg on our way to Legoland and I bought a pair of Birkenstock shoes while there. Also, in Wurzburg, we had to eat at a Pizza Hut that we
saw. I have to say that the pizza was less greasy in Germany than at home.
So here we are, the month of April is over half gone and there is only a little over 2 months of school left. The time has gone so fast. We are definitely blessed.

Hi Jarod - I hope you know that I pray for you and your family so often. And I love your blog! It continues to sounds just like you, but on a screen....this is a gift I wish I had. :) I wanted to tell you that I met Denis the other day, at district PD - I'm not sure I was adequately able to explain who I was, how I knew who HE was, or that I knew you even though I didn't teach there anymore....it was an awkward exchange. :) Anyways, he seems very nice and was a good sport in our session on DPA, just as you would likely have been. Hope the chicken pox have fled and you are all back to enjoying your european adventure! I must say: no one does europe like the letendre's - you guys are doing it ALL, and I love reading about it! Take good care and enjoy your last months abroad, Amy
