After the severe beating we took by the storm the night before, we finally could see how we survived in the light of day and try to get everything dry again. We headed into Lucerne and spent a few hours wandering the streets. In typical Swiss fashion it is on another lake and has a river running through the town which travels at a fair rate of knots. It also has some amazing bridges crossing it. Had a small bout of rain so headed into the Picasso museum which was actually really worth the visit, showing his life in photos taken by his friend. ... read more

Finally left beautiful Interlaken heading for Lucerne on one of the hottest days so far in the trip being well into the high 30's. We stopped at the Swiss Cultural Museum on the way which is laid out over a very, very large site and brings together all the various different cultural aspects of Switzerland from housing styles to arts and crafts and loads more. Later in the day we got to Lucerne and enjoyed meal and a drink at our site on the banks of another beautiful lake just outside the main town. For the rowers reading this, the long narrow lake is the site of many World Championship events and makes the water in Iron Cove look like a washing machine. Anyway, a few hours later a storm hit, which would have had the ... read more

Hello Everyone! Sorry we are a little behind, been a bit busy, but please continue to tune in and hopefully we will be caught up soon. Each blog is dated, so be sure to look at that so you know what time period we are in! The Swiss Alps, Swiss Army Knife, Swiss Bank, and Swiss Cheese all in one place! Ok, so we all know that the small country of Switzerland has many things that make it famous, but for those of you who might go there…it is expensive too, but we couldn’t pass it up. We decided that one night in the town of Luzern would be perfect. It is a short distance from Zurich, right in the mountains, and there is a lake with ferries we could ride for free because of our ... read more

Switzerland is absolutely gorgeous. It is, so far my favorite place on this trip. But I’m getting ahead of myself right now. Woke up around 5:30 and decided it was way too cold. I fell back asleep til about 6:30, where I had to repack my overnight bag and head to breakfast. Again, my breakfast today was just 2 slices of toast with apricot jam. Meals are becoming an interesting time. Eva and I ate with Boris, who had some funny tales from Eurotrip to tell. After that breakfast, we boarded the bus and headed for Lucerne. First, we stopped at a stop in Germany where I had a KitKat bar (€ 1) and a Lentil soup with sausage and bread (€ 6), which was very very delicioso. The bread was very soft and so perfect. ... read more

On thursday we left lovely paris to head to Lauterbrunnen. Or Lauters, as our guide called it. bloody aussies, come up with an abbreviation for everything! I absolutely loved Switzerland. The scenery was absolutely spectacular! it was a pity we were only there for one night. We were rooming with two lovely new zealand girls so we went to have dinner at the Oberland Restaurant and had a swiss speciality called Rosti. it was superb. think a huge hashbrown covered in swiss cheese, bacon and mushrooms. cholesterol galore but it was totally worth it! So had a bit of a quiet night that night to get up early in the morning but Switzerland is my favourite place so far.... read more

As we have a 2 night stay, Todd and I sleep in and miss breakfast. We don’t mind…the extra hour sleep is worth it. The sun is shining and it’s warm in Lucerne today. We walk around the streets looking at shops. Prices are not that expensive here! It’s just about the same as back home. We buy a hotdog and coke to share and sit by the lake till our day trip to Mt Titlis begins. The drive to Engleberg takes 20 mins from Lucerne. From there we catch a series of cable cars to the top of Mt Titlis. It’s just like the postcards and pictures I’ve seen. Actually it’s better! The first thing we do is play in the snow. Well Todd played more throwing snowballs and climbing a big hill. I take ... read more

Another end to a very long day. We were late to breakfast so ended up only getting a bread roll and some ham. We sat with 2 older American couples who are both very nice. I sat next to Nancy and we are both peanut butter lovers. She’s been looking for it here but can’t find any. I have a jar in my suitcase and told her I’d bring it to breakfast the next day. After breakfast at the hotel we board the bus for our Germany tour. We went on the optional cruise on the Rhine River. A very peaceful cruise we saw scenes of castles on hilltops, quaint little towns, and vineyards on mountainsides. The cruise went for an hour. 3 levels, we spent most of it outside upstairs as it had the best ... read more
