Edit Blog Post
The group have done an amazing job maintaining the blog throughout the trip but I have hijacked it this morning for a quick entry that is relevant to the future of our organisation in line with the Inspire Programme.
Our hosts have moved to a new temporary accommodation providing a base for a number of different teams, the new base holds approx 200 staff and they have implemented a variety of new ways of working similar to what we are looking to do within our organisation.
They have further long term plans to move to an even bigger location looking to accommdate many more staff, this location has been given the name of 'The White House' - maybe this reflects the power the new base should provide for them.
The temporary base is being used to trial the new ways of working and we have asked for more updates as this continues that may help shape our programme and provide us with some best practice.
We were impressed with the setup, as expected they operate a hot desking approach and if any member of staff will be away from the desk they are working at for longer
than 2 hours they are required to pack up and clean the area so it is then accessible to other staff.
Some of the interesting systems they have implemented include:
• Open spaces - they have many open areas that staff can use in a relaxed environment to encourage collaboration between teams.
• Standing or sitting work spaces - so staff have an option depending on their requirements
• Pods - small private enclosed areas are scattered around the building
• Quiet zone - an area for those that need a quiet environment to work
• Lockers for staff - to keep the work areas clear
• Central Resource area - as is being used in some DCC establishments already, this holds the refuse and recycling bins and where the printing machines are located
• Meeting areas - a variety of different size meeting areas are available from an 1-1 area to the larger fully ICT enabled formal meeting rooms
• Drinks machines - we mentioned this last year but these machines are scattered around the building and are free.
• Kitchen area - fully functional to enable staff to prepare and store their own food
We have asked for any information released to staff
so we can see how they communicated this new approach to staff and any policy documentation relating to this - Katie is really excited and looking forward to translating these documents on her return to the office. The colleagues we spoke to were mainly positive about the changes and did indicate it has improved their working life, one of the minor issues is that it can sometimes be difficult to find a colleague if you need to speak to them as they can be scattered across the building. I have attached some photos of the layout and we look forward to receiving more info around this.
