After a well deserved lie in for the whole group after a busy week the only activity we had planned today as a group was a visit to the Universeum which is the Nordic region's largest Science Centre.
I had left the group quite early last night following the meal with our host Robin as apparently the social scene differs depending on age and someone 30+ would not normally head to where the younger crowd continue their night - the cheek of it I can quickly go off this country!! As I couldn't find a bingo hall nearby I retired for the night which was fine by me as I need as much beauty sleep as possible.
On meeting around lunchtime it seems the group certainly had a good night and Robin seems to enjoy the apprentices company as was with them well into the night - I am sure they were all tucked up by midnight of course. It will be interesting to hear Robins version of events on Monday. Its testament to our apprentices that Robin felt so comfortable in their company so credit to them.
The Universeum is about a 20min walk away so after
a quick pitstop at McDonald's for brunch the group seemed a little more sprightly and we started the journey, it did take us to a different area of the city so it was good to explore new parts of the area.
As most big cities would be on a Saturday lunchtime the streets were packed and our apprentices had to keep their wits about them to keep aware of the trams and many bicycles flying towards us at all angles - you can hire a bike for literally pennies in this city, a 3 day rental will set you back 25 SEK (just over £2) and rental stands are available everywhere similar to how it operates in London but much cheaper.
The Universeum is a huge building and brings together animals, nature, technology and masses of experiments. Its packed full of exotic animals from all over the world and you can see how its a perfect family day out, I have certainly been looking forward to the visit but not as much as Danielle who is currently based with our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty team and has been enjoying any type of wildlife we have seen on
our daily business so she was certainly pumped for this.
We started at the top of the building and slowly worked our way down all the fascinating levels seeing all sorts of wildlife, they have even created a rain forest environment to enable the tropical creatures to live and it was sticky hot to say the least I had to speed up through there as I could feel the droplets gathering on my brow.
We all loved it and as always our really shy apprentice Alex was available for any photo opportunity with the props in the centre. I didn't think I would take many pics today but did get a little trigger happy as there were so many interesting species but I am sure you will find them as interesting and impressive as we did.
The activity did the trick and seemed to help the group clear their heads and the rest of the day is theirs to explore or more probably chill and recover.
We took a different route on the way back and stumbled on some impressive looking football pitches in the city centre and it was just as well myself and Aaron
didnt have suitable footwear on or we would have shown them how we do it up North (am sure you all get my sarcasm by now).
So much to do and see in this city I may need to arrange an extention to our stay to get it all in - I am sure no one is missing us.
