When we got up today we went shopping first. Food is so expensive here! Then we grabbed our stuff from the hostel and locked it at the train station. Our first sight was City Hall of Stockholm today. City Hall is massive. It is a red building right next to the river. Very windy there but beautiful. Stockholm reminds me of Venice. But orange. There was weird statues of naked people everywhere. It was spitting but we didn't get too wet at all. We then crossed the bridge to Gamla Stan - the old city. Saw an abbey on the way. First we went to Riddar Holmen which is one part of the island. There was a pretty red-brown church. Then on our way to central old town we saw more pretty buildings, most of which I still don't know what they actually were. We arrived at a narrow street. The atmosphere was great. Everything is orange, red or yellow and it is very chilled. We headed towards the Church and the Palace. The church was orange - surprise :P and entry was 30 kronas each! It was quite pretty inside. I liked the candles (for rememberance) that were in a
sphere. There was a seperate room in the church where they showed a video of a naked man ice skating - how random! The palace was rather crowded. They had guards (like in London but blue) and they were doing a show. Everyone kept stepping in front of the lines and the guards struggled with keeping control. We walked around the palace where there was an alright view onto mainland. We crossed a bridge there again. St. Jacob's church was bright red outside. The gardens were small but decent looking and we had lunch there and Sam fed some sparrows. The next point was an elevator on Södermalm, the big island. Up from where the elevator took us there was an amazing view onto old town. We wandered around the island, spotting an orange tower and a yellow church, where the yard was a graveyard. It must have been the prettiest graveyard I've ever seen as it was in a nice garden. Back in old town we chilled in a nice park with a pretty fountain for a while, enjoying the arvo sun of Stockholm. We also went to see Klara (a church), which was the last thing we did
in Gamla Stan. As it was only 5 pm then and our train only left at 10 pm we decided to go to Langholmen, which is an island about 4 km from Gamla Stan. We walked along Nor Mälarstrand (the riverfront) and crossed a quite long bridge. From the bridge you got the most incredible view of Stockholm city! The sun was shining and the water was very blue aswell. On the island I lost Sam and for an hour we couldn't find each other again! That was the downpart of the day. But finally together again we found a spot on the rocks of Langholmen in the sun and chilled there for ages till we finally went back to the train station to catch the night train. Stockholm was mad! The best place so far. It was very pretty. I enjoyed it a lot The orange Venice of the North with everyone being blonde and pretty. Yay for Stockholm.
