Jag kommer frön USA.
Yeah yeah yeah, I’m learning Swedish. The lesson’s started Monday and the rest of the classes start in a week or something like that. I’m not sure. I’m definitely starting to feel at home here. The people on the group are fun and Stockholm is just amazing. I have finally figured out how to use public busses properly, and I love them. I have always enjoyed public transportation, but now I don’t know if I can go back to LA traffic and a car haha. Yeah, I know it’s been a week, I’ll change my mind soon enough. I also am starting to enjoy the cold weather and I have either been “climatized,” or it is getting warmer. I have been told it will only get worse before it gets any better, and February and March are the worst.
Anyway, what have I been doing lately? I went to Finnham in the archipelagos. It was freezing, isolating and extremely quiet. Learned/created a new game called Tumble. It’s like Swedish Jenga but you have to roll a dice to see which one you pull out. It is also four

doesn't it kind of look like the sky? across instead of 3. Very interesting, and apparently I am pretty good at it. Later that night, while we were playing boys v girls in pictionary we managed to blow a fuse with all the space heaters and started out sleeping with out any heat or electricity. Fortunately, it came back on nearly right after we all fell asleep, but the place was already freezing—hence the space heaters. Anyway, I went sledding down a hill, fell on tons of ice, and hiked across the island. I did not get to see a moose though, which is very sad, but I may hit up Stansen very soon. Stansen being the little museum/park/zoo with a bear pit (they’re hibernating now) and other nordic animals. They also have wolverine’s which I really want to see. Stansen is also on the island with the Vasa Museum and the theater for Mamma Mia! and Cabaret. I asked one of the program staff members if Mamma Mia! is in Swedish or English and she said it is most likely a combination with the songs in Engleska and the dialogue in Svenska. I find that interesting because ABBA is Svensk and didn’t they do versions of the

on a walk in finnham song in Swedish? Actually, I found a copy of Gimme Gimme Gimme from the show in German so who knows. Perhaps when the family comes down we could check that out, or beauty and the beast in Swedish (I still really want to see a blonde Belle and crazy horned Beast). Mary you can be jealous.
But back to the Vasa Museum. I went there idag, and it was interesting. I kind of fell asleep during the video they screened, but I say once you seen one restored old warship you’ve seen them all, and I do recall the one in Britain, The Mary Rose? Basically, I learned the history of it and a bit about what life aboard the ship should have been like, but I knew most of that before hand thanks to all the ships Dad has taken me to. I attempted some pictures, but as with most old things they are in dim light and using a flash results in a lack of a picture, and I couldn’t get a good enough angle to get better ones with out the flash. Oh well.
I also went on a tour of Gamla Stan (the old

we were playing spoons and the loser had to go outside. this time, it was me. town) yesterday. It’s nice and cute, but would probably be more enjoyable if it hadn’t been so cold (you know you’re in Sweden when 0 degrees Celsius sounds warm). I learned about all the fires that went on down town and the Swedish Blood Bath. It also covered some Swedish history, especially with Denmark. One of the most interesting things is that Stockholm is the third capital city in Sweden because the first two were destroyed through fire and pirates, and instead of rebuilding they picked new spots based on the midpoint between the lake and the sea. Because of the kilometers of ice that covered Scandinavia during the Ice Age all the land was compressed. Then when the ice melted, the land began to rise. Stockholm (and Sweden in general) are rising 4 cm a year, so over the course of centuries the center between these two bodies of water has changed because of the rising of the ground. It’s like the polar opposite of Mexico City.
Ok well enjoy the pictures, they’re from Finnham, Gamla Stan, and the Vasa Museum, I am off to bed for another full day and to finally meet my contact family (quick

Next time, remind me to talk about my mjölk experience, and how I am in heaven since the svensk love apelsin marmalade (orange marmalade).
