Me, my roommate Hayley, Josefa is in the white and is our host mother, and Milagros is her 30 year old daughter who is taking care of us. Yesterday was a difficult day. I felt a little homesick in the morning, but a day at the beach cured that right away. My roommate and I met the other 6 people in our group at the beach after lunch at 3:30. The water was more beautiful than anything I ever imagined. The water is turquoise and a little green. The beach we live near is called La Coleta. It is one of the smaller beaches in Cadiz, but I have a feeling it will be my favorite. The water is warm, and the temperature was in the low 80s. At 8:30 PM we watched la puesta del sol (the sunset) at the beach and words cannot describe how beautiful it was. There were three brides having their wedding pictures taken on the beach. For dinner, Milagros cooked mashed potatoes and some kind of warm ham that night because I had told her earlier in the day that it was my favorite American meal. It was a nice and comforting surprise. After dinner "team Cadiz" met in la Plaza de San Antonio and had a night out on the town. The night starts a lot later here in Cadiz, usually not

When we asked for Sangria at the bars, they told us that they had tinto de vino instead, which is a lot like Sangria. It was delicious.
This morning when I woke up I felt homesick again, because the internet was down so I couldn't check to see if I got an e-mail from my family or a skype message. Around 2 PM Hayley and I went to the beach to meet up with our host family. When we opened the door we saw that Milagros had made us two sack lunches to bring with us, which made me feel more at home. 6 members of our host family were at the beach, it was a lot of fun. The weather was perfect, and we had three of the girls from our program meet up with us and they got to know our host family while they were laying out. It is our mission to get a tan ASAP so that we can blend in! On a sidenote, I don't think I will
ever get use to seeing topless girls on the beach. It was a little warmer today, but there was a nice breeze and I didn't even feel like it was hot, which was a nice break from Oklahoma weather. A Sunday afternoon with my family here helped a lot with the homesickness. My first day of my three week intensive language course starts tomorrow at 9:30 AM, I'm nervous but also excited for it.
Cadiz is considered to be the oldest city in Spain. It is divided into two sections, "La parte nuerva" New Cadiz and "La parte antigua" Old Cadiz. I haven't spent any time in New Cadiz. I live in Old Cadiz, which seems to be much more authentic and beautiful. You can walk across Old Cadiz in twenty minutes going North to South and in 30 minutes if you are going East to West. They people here are lively and friendly. People don't drive a lot, but the ones who do are crazy drivers! Families go to the market on a daily basis to get fresh food for their meals. Breakfast is whenever they get up, lunch is at 2:30PM, and dinner is at 9:30 PM.
La Coleta
a woman is getting her wedding pictures taken on the beach at sunset, it was beautiful The food has been great for the most part so far and I am excited to try new things every day. My host family is extremely patient with the language barrier and I am understanding a lot more Spanish than I thought I would be able to. They are very helpful and politely correct our Spanish if we say something incorrectly, which is something I really appreciate about them. I can only imagine what I will know at the end of the semester. Hasta luego!
