On the tube to the airport!!
We had to leave Beck and say our goodbyes!! Before we headed to Spain and La Tomatina, there were a few things we had to take care of..
Firstly, me and Kylie had to organise something with our room and we were sick and tired by this point in trying to hide our situation from our landlord... Especially when Blondie arrived and we had other dossers staying at other times, the total number of people in the house got up to 9 people at one stage.. We had also had issues with the lesbian couple upstairs and they ended up trashing their room when they moved out...
One of the girls, a Brazilian girl, was particularly a bitch to us and would purely hate and not talk to me (and there is NO exaggeration at all here) for ABSOLUTLEY NO reason at all.. She hated Erin, (the other one...) and therefore by association, would not even look me in the eye. Would walk past me and not even acknowledge my existence.
So yeah, I guess you could say that with all the dramas, it was definitely time we got out. We knew our situation wasn’t permanent anyway and we knew that when
Mid fight!
Craziest moment EVA!! we returned from Spain, we were going to have to move fast to sort ourselves out. But regardless of all this, and regardless of what I knew would be waiting for us when we got back to London, I was SO excited about our trip..
I mean, of course I was!! I was going to Spain!!
Besides the UK, this was the first time that I had been to ANY European country!! Ever since I was young when I did my grade 6 project on Spain and the Barcelona Olympics, I have always wanted to go to Spain. So it was a little bit of a dream come true when it finally came about.
Our flight was from Gatwick on the 23rd of August. I had finished up at Pan European two days before and I had spent the last 2 days packing up my room and making arrangements. The day we left, we took the train out to Gatwick and board the plane to Barcelona!!
I dunno what it is, but I LOVE airports, and I especially love discovering new airports.. When we arrived at Barcelona, that feeling of foreign excitement
The lovely men we played bowls with!!
In Barcelona, we stumbled across these guys who intoduced us to the game, not sure what it was called!! hit me as we attempted to find our way to our accommodation and then familiarise ourselves with the city surroundings.
In hindsight, we probably should have booked a different hostel. It wasn’t too bad, and we were only there for 3 nights. But it was about 40minutes out of town on the metro and not very good if we wanted to experience any night life.. One of the first things I noticed when we arrived in Barcelona however was that I still remembered a lot of Spanish from my classes from a few years back. I did a year of Spanish at Uni and I was excited about trying to utilise it again.. They predominantly speak Catalonian in Barcelona but it was pretty similar.
However, besides our remote hostel, we got to see some amazing things in Barcelona. Highlights include an afternoon bowls match with a bunch of old Spanish men. None of us spoke each others ' language but it didn’t really matter!! One of them was trying to ask if I was married..!! They ended up buying us drinks and they were absolutely beautiful men..!! A definite cultural highlight!!
We also visited
The man that wanted to marry me..
He even took his wedding ring off!! sights such as the Sangrada Familia (Just breathtaking... Another one of those before u die moments...) Arch de Trionf, The Plaza of Espana, The castle, Las Ramblas (the main shopping hub) and we even went on a night grotto sail. Absolutely beautiful night.. One good thing about our hostel is that we would never have met our new friend Matt if we hadn’t gone there!! He ended up sharing a room with us girls, (or maybe getting stuck with us) and we also travelled down to Valencia with him as well he was also going to the La Tomatina festival as well...
La Tomatina is situated in a little town south of Barcelona about 50 minutes out of Valencia. The town is quite small so we ended up joining a Fanatics tour and staying at a beachside caravan park for 4 days near Valencia. Our new friend Matt was also going on a Fanatics tour as well, but he had chosen the Hostel option. So, we bid him farewell when we got to Valencia and made our way out to our little beachside tent!!
I didn’t hate my time on tour, but in saying that,
The Sagrada Familiar
Beautiful skyscraper like church that has never been finished. Has been under construction for over 100 years and probably wont be finished till 2025 I probably wouldn’t go on another Fanatics tour again. Not really my kind of people and VERY clicky already. I think that a lot of the people already knew each other and weren’t really in the mood to socialise. But me, Kyles and Blondie had a blast. The third day of our tour was the actual trip to Bunol to attend the La Tomatina festival.
We'd kitted up in £5 prepared Primark outfits and joined the other 40,000 people to attend one of the world’s craziest and biggest food fights!! The aim is quite simple. People displaying amazing bravado climb a massive pole in an attempt to be the first one to remove a massive ham that was on the top. Once it’s been retrieved, its food fight begins!!!
I think there were as many as 6 trucks that started making their way through the tiny streets, FULL to the very brim with tomatoes. Apparently there are about 100,000 tones of tomatoes used throughout the festival... As you can probably see from the photos, the day was MAD!!
..ENJOY!!
So I might leave in closing here with quite a few photos from
The Sagrada Familiar
me out the front, ABSOLUTLEY beautiful!! the day... It was definitely one of those life experiences that I will never forget...
Next stop, Madrid...
