Ola Bo & Dud, Someone turned the thermostat up in Spain, we are currently getting temperatures in the mid 30c and the sun is extremely hot. It’s been far too hot for driving about in the car and site seeing so we’ve been awaiting a little cloud cover before setting out. Guadalest was top of our list for a visit. This is a historical town perched on one of the highest points of the Costa Blanca - its nickname is “The Eagles Nest”, you will see why when looking at the photographs. Initially, the village was built up around the Castle San Jose; but, an earthquake in 1644 devastated the region and demolished the buttress of the castle. We were able to walk around the east wall overlooking a huge reservoir. There looks to be plenty ... read more

Dear Bo & Dud, What a surprise the Costa Blanca has been to us - a few days in Benidorm has turned into a couple of weeks, which in turn, is probably going to become a month! Our situation is glorious - we are almost in a basin, surrounded by the glorious Serra de Aitana. The camp site is much bigger than our usual choice, the facilities are superb and the parcela is hedge marked, huge and fully serviced. There are two pools (cool water) and I can usually find some time during the day when I can swim alone - Bliss! The Llevante beach and the beginning of the metropolis is about 1½ miles away. Many of the people on this camp site live here; as static caravans are not allowed everyone starts off in ... read more

Travel blog 17 ‘ Nothing outstanding to report but this is what we have been up to... Sunday, 24th February 2008 Awoke to heavy rain today and felt a bit stuck in the van with no internet, phone signal or TV (can usually pick up Sky news if not parked under trees or canopies, as we were here). A couple parked nearby knocked on door as they too were bit fed up and we decided to walk short distance to the village restaurant for lunch. Had a very enjoyable meal in the good company of John and Mandy from Norfolk. After leisurely meal rain had stopped so we went for a walk amongst the orange and lemon groves. In this tiny little mountain village found a lovely hotel with a beautiful infinity pool built into the ... read more

Motorhome New from Europe 13. Spain January 2005 A touch of frost - and we’re chasing great bustards again. After a few weeks at home for Christmas, it was good to be getting on the plane again to pick up Smiley once more at Almeria on Spains’ arid south coast. Ron and Todd were delighted to see us of course and especially pleased to be let out of the cupboard. We’ve been back around ten days now, and we are looking forward to a holiday in Mallorca later in the month. We’ll leave the motorhome in Valencia, pack a bag and catch the ferry. It was going to take a while to break back into a routine of walking in bright sunshine, exploring new beaches and living in each other’s pockets again, but we started as ... read more
