Where have you flown from? And where are you staying? And what's your name? I seem to be repeating these words in my sleep we've been checking in so many customers of late. In fact, we're seeing about 8,000 guests a week! Our usual quiet Tuesdays have been replaced by a barage of flights all landing within 10 minutes of each other. Ad then there's the missing prams and damaged suitcases to contend with…. All in a day's work! The rising temperatures and increased number of passengers means everyone is starting to get a little cranky, not least the bus drivers. I can understand when they are having to lump heavy suitcases all day, but some of them can be particularly moody and take it out on us when it's not our fault! Greg professed to one of the drivers the other day that it was really warm and he rudely retorted “well you don't have to lug suitcases on the bus in the heat” to which Greg quickly replied- “well have you ever worked in a kitchen in the height of summer? Well, then you don't have a clue what hot is!”. Greg - 1, bus driver – 0. I
do have to laugh as they do portray the stereotypical image of a spanish bus driver, standing by the side of their bus with a fag hanging out their mouth with shirt unbuttoned almost halfway down and a nice sweatpatch gathering at the bottom of the back lol. But I do still love my bus drivers dearly.
Anyway, asides from the cranky drivers and busy working week, we've managed to fit a few things in between. Now all our visitors have gone (for the moment), we've had a chance to relax and just spend days at the beach topping up the tan. In this weather there's not much else for it. I must admit it's quite nice to be able to plan social gatherings knowing that we actually have time off to do it, unlike last year. And with having the bigger house and a BBQ, it makes things a lot easier too. But we did manage to get carried away one evening off when we decided we should let our hair down and have a drink. Before long the classic nostalgic tunes were being played by DJ Greg and 'someone' decided it would be a good idea to drink spirits, even though we had no mixers. So straight vodka it was, and my body did not thank me for it the next day!
So, this month our big event was buying a new car. It's taken me at least a year to get round to the idea of getting one, because I feel like i'd be bailing on my little Charlie boy. We've got a lot of memories together and he's been with us throughout all of our travelling adventures to date, so it's a sad time indeed. But it makes sense as he's getting on now and things are starting to slowly but surely go wrong with him. Every day there's a new squeak or groan. And I can't lie, travelling to and from work in a car without air conditioning is just insane (especially when one window doesn't roll down anymore lol). I wasn't looking forward to the process, and I assumed it would take us a good week or two to find something suitable in our price range, but as it turns out we managed to get something in one day! Sometimes you just know when something is for you, and that 'something' happened to be in the form of a black peugot 308. As soon as we saw it we both thought it was the one, and it fitted all our criteria. Nice big boot for the dog, air conditioning! and not too big or powerful either. So far so good and the dog seems to love it too. We still have Charlie and I guess at some point in the not too distant future I need to figure out if and how we are going to sell him 😞 But like the Spanish mantra, it can wait until manana
