Geo: 43.3718, -8.39592Up early for mass at the Cathedral - scheduled for today is a swinging of the botafumeiro, a giant incense burner that swings through the nave. It normally only happens about 25 times per year, but we are lucky that 2010 is considered a holy year, when it swings almost daily. Supposedly, the tradition of the botafumeiro started as a means of combating the smell of the pilgrim... Read Full Entry

Interesting - this other kebab shop also served up Thai food! Here's a shot of their wok burner.

La Coruna's beautiful coastline - this was either Playa del Orzan or Playa Riazor.

Fountain on La Coruna's oceanfront promenade - definitely not as nice as it was this past summer when it was warm and sunny: http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entries/pwong/9/1250953764/tpod.html#pbrowser/pwong/9/1250953764/filename=k.jpg

Another round of caldeirada - mussels, two types of shrimp, merluza, rape, and a third type of unknown fish. The mussel shells were not cleaned, with some barnacles still present.. Tonight's caldeirada was good, though last night's was better. This version had a bit of a Moroccan flavour to it and made us wonder if the cazuela was a Moroccan influence, as you could argue that it was like a Spanish version of a tajine. I preferred last night's because it had a thicker sauce rather than a broth, and the seafood was also of a slightly better quality. Probably the best parts of tonight's caldeirada were the yummy potatoes (Morocco has turned me into a potato fiend, for some strange reason) and the broth, which was very sweet - I couldn't stop sipping it and eating the potatoes, though I was well beyond full.

Sangria - we hadn't had any so far on this trip until tonight; pretty average, but it's a must while in Spain. Asian lightweights such as us turn beet red when we drink, which is something I have learned to embrace over the years. Unlike Mary ...

The obelisk - now it's Santa climbing it. This past summer I think there was a comic-book festival taking place because it was Spiderman: http://www.travelpod.com/travel-photo/pwong/9/1250867354/y.jpg/tpod.html

Cold in the room - Mary looked a bit like a blob underneath all the covers. If I was a 6'-3" Dutch guy named Anders, I probably would have been invited to stay warm under the blankets!
