We had no intentions to go to Santiago, but Liz brother Hugo said, what you go to Spain and do not go there? We found out that Santiago was declared the third holiest city after Rome and Jerusalem. Pilgrims go there by foot from all over the world even from America but that involves flying or swimming. That explains the bag packers all over the south of France on foot direction Santiago. The reason for this is St james. He was one of the disciples of Jesus and was killed by Herodus on his return to Judea, in the year 44. His remains supose to be underneath the cathedral. The legend goes that a star pointed to his grave in the ninth century and after more ghostly sightings his remains turned up in Santiago via an unknown way. Wherever you walk in the city you are within sight of a Church of a Monastry. The Cathedra was started in 1075 and completed in 1128. It was replacing an earlier one build over the grave of St James. We had a good connection with the bus to the city so we visited it a few times. The old city consist of very

small streets and you see the many tourist with town maps trying to find their way through this maze. On one occasion we heard singing and found a group of musicians at a small cafe. We joined them there for a beer and a glass of wine. They were making merry. We had a good time there as well as taking care of our thirst. We joined in with the music with hand clapping. A couple of Swiss people joined as well it made a nice afternoon. For the afternoons are very boring nothing is open till about 5 p.m. That makes it difficult with shopping and eating. Till next time Liz & Allan
