Spain: it has infrastructure. What a fucking relief. Arrived in Madrid - Barajas Airport this "morning" at 7:30 a.m. in Spain (12:30 a.m. back home...) tired and jet-lagged, but not worried! Had a great flight with Iberia Airlines and even got to spread out between two seats (score!). The people here are polite and chatty, and friendly for the most part! Unusual for one of today's largest urban centers. Have yet to explore -- staying at Las Musas hostel in el centro and am still glued to my bed. (Arrived before check-in so I got to crash on a couch in the basement of the hostel for four hours haha). Note: "Transfers - Aero" shuttle from Barajas Airport was efficient and cost-effective, great find. Guess I'll rest some more and see if I have enough energy to explore the city a bit before dark.
