So I lied I am writing another blog!!
Monday: First day of exams! I woke up early to head to campus to print out some papers, you have to pay to print, meet with my director and be reimbursed for cultural activities and of course study. My first test was lengua, esh i don't know how it went but it is over. Its a class about grammatics conversation and composition in Spanish. After that, I had my Spanish Literature class. All during this time it was the First Snowfall in Madrid! I couldn't believe it! It was so cold and really wasn't a beautiful snowfall, but snow this early isn't very common here, or so i think. After my test I got back to the house around 630 pm and jumped right into studying for the next day and my big history test on Wednesday. Tuesday was kind of a chill day. Woke up a little early to study for my tests, skyped with mom for a whie had lunch with Any and then I went to school to take my Hispanic American Literature class. Could have gone a lot worse but i think i was really close to understanding
the poem this time. Anyways, because I felt like procrastinating, I decided to walk back to the house from the bus station and ended up buying a mini luggage back for my carry on. Kinda exciting, I am home soon! I cannot believe it! So anyways, I got back to the apartment and jumped right back into studying.
Wednesday was really cool. I woke up early to meet up with Suzanne to go on our hunt for the famous nun cookies at the convent. We buzzed the doorbell, said dulces and ventured through the hallways following the direction of torno. We then came to a lazy susan in which a box of cookies were waiting for us to put our money down and then the nun would spin the device and spin it again to return our change. Did i mention they were cloystered nuns so we weren't allowed to see them?! anyways we took some pictures next to the lazy-susan and asked for our boxes of nun candies and we were so happy that we had gotten some! Usually they are hard to come by if you aren't early enough! So after this we walked to the Royal
Palace to see the changing of the guard. But as that wasn't until 12 and it was only 1030 we decided to grab a cup of cafe con leche and study for our MAJOR history test, centuries worth of memorization. We sat there for a while, listening to aquarium style music, and during random brain farts we would make whale and dolphin noises to fill in the gaps where in the actual aquarium these sea creatures would make them. the people thought we were crazy but we enjoyed it very much and got lots of studying done. well once 1145 roled around we ventured over to the place and saw the procession of the horses into the main courtyard. So many horses and lots of musical instruments. It was amazing to see, and was pretty crowded. And it was a wonderful history review because the announcer went through the centuries of history so we got to quiz each other at the same time. The whole "changing of the guard" was about 45 minutes in total, but I am so glad we got to see it!!
Following this we hopped on the metro to head to campus, my last adventure
there! We grabbed some lunch and then reviewed more and more for the test. By the time of the test we just wanted to get it over with!! The test was okay. Potentially the hardest one of all my finals, but luckily with all of the reviewing suzanne and I did, i think we did just fine. And my 11 page paper, 12 font 1.5 space paper for that class (realistically a 15 page paper ALL in spanish) ended up turning out really well. He read them all in lightening speed but I'm not complaining, i pulled a 8.75 out of 10, and with my conversion rates to American standards, that is about an A-. I will surely take that! Happy to be done with school for the semester on the first of December I headed back to the apartment, waved goodbye to la Universidad de Carlos III de Madrid until the next time we encountered each other. That night both Any and I were excited that I could finally not do work and we just watched tv for the night and talked. It really was so nice.
Thursday, was a relaxing day. I walked with my senora to
the post office to mail something out to my friend and then met up with Suzanne to check out a market by the bus station. Got some funky tights (I know me in tights! What has Spain done to me!) and then returned back to the apartment to have lunch and lay low before going out with everyone. Our director Isabel wanted one more last group gathering so she invited us all to her home and we had Spanish Christmas deserts and then some tapas like tortilla and mini sandwhiches. We all played a game of surpulatives, and I got the one that said most likley to hold it rather than use a turkish toliet. And I volunteered to take that one, because its true. I refused to use the Turkish toilets in Morocco, not to mention my childhood fear of automatic flushers going down south. Yup. So that was a fun time at Izzy's house. Then as a group we proceeded to hang out and go to a local bar to dance and have some fun. It was a really cool place with good music and it looked like a cave! Suzanne was my spanish dancing partner as we
both have novios, but we were both completley content with keeping each other's company. And we had a blast and had many laughs. At around 3 am...can you imagine 3 am!! We decided to grab something to eat, because the deserts did not hold us over! So we got some pizza and headed back to our prospective houses. It was a really fun night, and now I can say I have experienced the night life as a madrilena. I am content 😊
Friday was a Senora-Nina day. Slept in and had breakfast and talked with Any for a while and then we had an earlier big lunch because we were going to try to go see an IMAX showing of sea creatures in 3D!!!! so we went to the place and of course we would be the only two that wanted to see it and they didn't show it 😞 I told my senora proudly that iin the States that even if two people go to the movies they always show it! She agreed that it would be more fair to do this. But either way we got a coffee and talked some and headed back to the apartment.
I stopped at a local supermarket to pick up some stuff to bring home with me and then just watched Cold Case and NCIS with Any. We had dinner and afterwards we both talked to our novios for a bit hehe and then went back and forth watching the news because of all the weekend the airplane people would strike it would be this one. So fingers crossing we watched as the news updated us with the arrival of the military to enforce flight departures and arrivals. I really hope this works out because my friend is suppose to be coming in tomorrow from France and of course I am suppose to be going home on Sunday!!
So, it is currently 2:15 am on December 4th, 2010. I AM GOING HOME TOMORROW! I cannot believe it. Packing is honestly bittersweet and I wish I could take Any with her cat that hates my guts with me back to the States. Spain has grown to be important to me, but I suppose, in the end, there is no place like home. See everyone on Sunday. Love you all!!
