Hello All,
Well we left the bustling metropolis of Malgrat de Mar and headed for greener pastures. we arrived in the small suberban town of Vila seca on Saturday afternoon, there was some kind of street circus going on because there were lots of kids around. nice town, but you can tell most of it is quite new, there is an amusement park nearby, so they probably built up around it. But we got a great deal on a nice place, so here we are. And the hotel is lovely, nice new spacious room, the lights and heat only go on when your key is in this special slot. I have noticed that here, even in the cheapest hotel, they are all very eco- friendly, the lightbulbs are all energy saving and the hallway lights are motion sensored, so if noone is walking, they go off. Back to our hotel, they have a huge indoor jacuzzi pool , with numerous areas of jets, loungers, stand up, sit down, all in a big pool, its quite luxurious, and a sauna. We feel like they made an error on the rate, because its like we are at the spa, which is lovely after a day of walking and driving, to get those muscles nice and relaxed.
First night we went out for som tapas, it was good, but i have a feeling we have not really hit the traditional tapas, these are like fast food tapas, but its all good, loads of time, and the food and drink is cheap. speaking of drink, first time since we been here, had a little too much wine that night, felt it the next day. we went into Tarragona, a beautiful little city, lots of history, nice and compact so it was easy to get around, but boy i was not in the mood to walk for 3 hours. But Andy, with the patience of job, put up with me, and pushed me on, and the pain was worth it. We hit a fleamarket by the city´s cathedral (Dad, you would have crapped yourself!), tons of spots where people came and displayed their stuff, haggling with people over the price of a magazine from 1988, lots of books, VHS tapes, mostly crap, junk is junk no matter what part of the world your in. But some of them did specialize, they weren´t just bringing crap from home, they seemed to be vendors, that want to sell wherever they can, selling coins, another sold old metal works, antiques, rare books. So it was a mix of people selling different things, but it drew quite the crowd, it was great. That night we had a quick bite at another tapas bar, same quality, but we had patatas brava, which it seems everyone in spain orders, all the tables around us were eating it, its just fried potatoes with this sortof spicy sauce poured all over, kind of like cocktail sauce. we headed to bed then, so we could early start today, but sadly our first real rainy cold day, we are supposed to be heading to Tortosa, and the delta area around there, so we will check in later. As of tomorrow night, i don´t think our rental house has wifi, but we will find a cafe somewhere. Have a good one!! Tara
