Pathway leading to fountain from Placa Espanya
Hola buenos dias,

I really hope the video for this post works because the pictures don't really cut it. In front of the Palau Nacional and the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya is what is called the Font Magica, or Magic Fountain. During the summer every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this fountain puts on a 20 minute show from 9-11pm. You can choose from a variety of places to watch the show. You can sit along the walkways over the road and get an all in one view of the fountains and palace, you can stand right on the side of the fountain and soak in all in (literally), or you can sit along the staircases leading up to the top of the palace. The first two choices are the best for watching the show, the last choice is the place to go after the show. If you want to do it right like me, bring a bottle of wine so that after watching the show up close you can head up to the top and drink wine while getting a wonderful view of Barcelona at night. Even if it slipped your mind or you'd rather have a beer there

are street vendors (most of the time illegally) selling Estrella beer for 1 euro a can all through the park. If you are really lucky like I was the first night I went, after the last show when the fountains go dark a street performer who is very good at flamenco guitar will make sure your experience at the top of the palace is truly unforgettable. So unforgettable, I told myself that this was where I wanted to propose someday.

Other pictures included in this blog are some more pictures of the beach area around Barcelona, and of Parc de la Ciutadella. This park is the largest in Barcelona, and is usually bustling with joggers, bike tours, dogs and children. I'm not really sure of the story about all the stuff in this park, so like me you'll have to just enjoy the pictures for what they are.

Well as I'm writing this I see that the video upload did not work, so I will have to figure out some other way to show everybody. Hope everyone is having a good summer.

-Shane

WOW!
The photos are incredible! My memory of Barcelona is not nearly as incredible as these pictures. As I look back, I realize that what seemed at the time to be a long time after World War II, was only forty years. It is obvious much economic development has occurred. It looks like Spain spends a fortune on public works -- but I suppose that is what brings tourist money in. I think I need to go back to visit Spain someday. YOu will have to translate for us if Wayne doesn't come along!!!! THanks for putting life into the pictures -- can you get a picture of some flamenco dancers? Love you and miss you. Mom
