Labyrinth Park
trying to decide which way to go Sunday 17 August 2008 I woke up really late today - 12:30. It's nice to be able to do that though, especially for the next few months...! No milk for cereal, so I made myself an egg sarnie. Alex went to watch the footie at the pub, so I had the flat to myself for a while. Decided to do some exercise and he came back halfway through. The Celtic Cross was shut so he'd gone to Bristol Blue, where it's expensive (although all Irish/English pubs here are), and then he got hungry so he came back. EUR 2.00 for some water!! And that's a small bottle - you can get 5 litres for EUR 0.55 from Craprabo or EUR 0.52 from Lidl!
We went to Spar to get some water and an onion for Alex's dinner, as the supermarkets are shut on Sundays. I had my rice with gohandesuyo and Alex made himself some egg fried rice. After dinner we decided to re-watch The Departed, which is a pretty good film, I think. Then as it was only midnight, we watched another one - 10,000 BC. It started off a bit boring for my liking, but it got more
Decision Making
we ended up following this couple that we'd been behind since the metro station amusing, as I'd previously read a review on it and it was a funny review. I prefer Apocalypto.
Monday 18 August 2008 We'd planned to go to the beach today, but Karin the estate agent said that she'd arranged for a couple of viewings tomorrow, so we had to tidy and clean the flat. Never have we spent so long cleaning this flat, and never have I sweated so much from cleaning!! But we got it all done, spick n span, and it looks good. We also had to go to the supermarket to shop for food, as we still had nothing in the house, so we went to Craprabo at 17:00 when it opened, and bought some basics. By the time we finished, it was definitely too late to go the beach, so we decided to watch a film instead and chose Rocket Science, which turned out to be quite amusing. Alex thought it was mediocre, but I thought it was slightly better than mediocre.
Tuesday 19 August 2008 We have the first viewing today at 14:00, so a bit of tidying and sweeping in the morning, and the first viewers arrived a bit before 14:00. But
The Disappointment
look how see-through the "walls" are! it was okay, because we'd finished it all by then, except Alex's dirty socks that he left out next to the telly. Luckily I spotted them before they got up the stairs. They seemed like a nice couple, and we answered their questions. The next two sets of viewers came and went, and we were finally left in peace to eat and fart as much as we liked...
Alex played footie in the evening, so I did my exercising, and tried to find a video for Bolt's 100m record breaking race at the Olympics. What a joker.
Wednesday 20 August 2008 We had planned to go to the beach again, but the weather didn't look particularly great - not raining or anything, just a bit grey. I still would've gone, but Alex didn't want to, so we ended up going to the Labyrinth Park up in Mundet. I was looking forward to the maze, as I remember doing one years ago in Japan, which was really hard and I ended up having to get some help (grrrr). It said online that it was EUR 2.05, which I thought was pretty strange, but nevertheless we trekked it out there
Eros Statue
nothing compared to piccadilly circus... and managed to find it after a bit of thinking.
On the way, we saw a stray cat sitting on the pavement and I stopped to take a photo. It must have been senile or something, because it kept rubbing against my legs - animals don't usually like me so much. I started to walk off and turned to get a photo, but as soon as I stopped, it came running to me. I figured it was lonely and needed a friend, but Alex was getting bored, so I left the poor mite behind...
When we got to the park, the man in the little park office told us we needed a ticket, so we went to him to buy tickets, only to be told by him that it's free today! So yay 😊 We found the labyrinth and proceeded to try and find the centre. It was super disappointing, as there were gaps in the trees, so you could actually see through the walls. Gay. We made it to the centre quite easily, although at one point Alex blamed me for taking us the wrong way, only to take us down another dead end - but of
Statue
of something course, that was because I put him off with my previous move...! Anyhoo, we got to the Eros statue in the middle, which was tiny - not sure what I was expecting really, but I guess when I hear Eros statue I automatically think Picadilly Circus.... So we sat there for a while watching a German couple try all the exits and come back because they were all dead ends. Only 1 entry point - the one with the sign! So we left to try and find the fountain that we could hear trickling in the distance and managed to get there with relative ease. Alex was well chuffed with himself. We had a walk around and checked out the various statues and ponds. All the still water had loads of algae and we saw a duck swimming in green water.
We decided it was time to leave after Alex got tired and didn't want to walk uphill anymore, and made a plan to go to Craprabo and Lidl to buy dinner food. When we got out of Diagonal metro station, Alex said he needed some food, so we ended up getting a bikini for him from the shwarma
The Maze
from above - looks more impressive because you can't see the holes joint and they cut off the crusts for him! That was a first. We got some baguette material and went home to chill. We got one of the big baguettes, so we ended up eating 2 sandwiches each - I had mine all in one go and Alex had his second one a couple of hours later. Muy filling I must say! The plan is to go to the beach tomorrow - hopefully we'll make it there...
Thursday 21 August 2008 So once again we didn't make it to the beach, because Alex didn't think the weather was good enough. Instead I did some jogging on the terrace and some stomach exercises - no idea why, it's not like I'm going to become really fit all of a sudden, but it took my fancy so now I'm in a bit of pain... Alex finished the bread as well, so I couldn't have a sarnie for lunch - apple with yoghurt and napolitana it was.
Flights are still changing all the time, so hoping that by the time we get back to London and book our flights to Thailand, it won't be too expensive. Starting to realise just how
Duckie
with algae all over her much stuff I have to sort out in the 2/3 weeks I'm back - not exactly my idea of fun, but guess it's gotta be done...
Friday 22 August 2008 As we haven't been working since July, money's been a bit tight, and it ain't gonna get any looser any time soon! So we're trying to not go out too much until Amit's arrival, because we're blatantly going to spend a lot of money when he's here! I've made a draft itinerary for his visit - some may call it anal, I call it prepared. All those years of Brownies must have had an effect. Actually, I think that was the Scouts' motto, not the Brownies, hmmm....
Bit of a thunderstorm at night - we were thinking about going to meet Tasha and Ruth for drinks at a bar near Tasha's, but there was none for going out in that. Maybe next time.
Saturday 23 August 2008 The weather's gone all weird - it's actually cloudy for most of the day, which I'm not complaining about at all, as firstly it's been a bit too hot sometimes lately, and secondly I get to do some jogging with a little breeze. Nice 😊 And it's not raining, so double yay!
