So Gaudi
B at the entrance to Parc Guell We get what everyone has been saying about Barcelona. It is FABULOUS. We have decided to brush up on our spanish or in Danika's case try to learn it for the fourth time...just in case we ever have to relocate.
Our hotel was in the heart of La Rambla, which puzt us within walking distance from pretty much everything we wanted to cram in within 2+ days. Unfortunately we did not get in until very late so off to bed we went so the next day we could have a full day about town. We started off by heading to Parc Guell, where we brought our breakfast with us to enjoy. Gaudi helped design this park and his presence was felt everywhere from the entrance to the arches. (see pic) We avoided a major meltdown...Danika's camera broke and believe it or not she did not freak! More on this to come.
It was now off to the Sagrada Familia another of Gaudi's works that is still in process after 100 years. (But before we could enjoy off we went to buy a disposable camera. Miraculously Danika's camerca decided to work again and we are able to continue to
Sagrada Familia
Facade of La Sagrada Familia share pics with you!!!!) The vision is beautiful from the 2nd entrance with the stations of the cross to the 1st that showed the nativity (see pic). I hope that one day are children or maybe our children's children will get to see it completed.
We were not done walking just yet. It was off to the Passeig de Gracia. Where once again we spotted another Gaudi building. Oh and Danika may or may not have made Brad stop at 4 different Zaras. A girl has gotta do what a girl's gotta do since she has not had the pleasure of shopping there in 2 years...boo Chicago.
After a little rest, we headed out in search of dinner. There are so many options to choose from so we headed down some side streets in hope of something more authentic and not so touristy. (oh I did forget to mention that this was around 10pm when if was finally dark and the locals decided it was time fore dinner) We stumbled upon Dos Trece. This very cute candle lite place where we could reminisce about our amazing day listening to the tunes of motown and eat some delicious food.
The happy couple
B and D after a great meal in Barcelona (see our happy faces pic)
The next morning we arose early and headed out to the market, to explore the Barri Gotic and see the Museo Picasso. Danika started off the day with a smile on her face after her slice of yellow watermelon AND fresh kiwi juice. Brad opted for no fruit. What was he thinking? When exploring the Barri Gotic we saw a Catedral, the old city walls, king's square and some pretty architecture. Next up was the long line to get into Museo Picasso but it was well worth the wait to explore Picasso's early works that were nothing like the work he is known for, but we were also able to take in a little of that as well.
And last but not least we walked down to Barcelonetta and took in the waterfront. It was gorgeous. Where do you get such and amazing city with a beautiful waterfront.
For dinner that night we decided we had no choice but to do Tapas and Sangria. When searching for the perfect tapas joint we released that (unfortunately) we prefer American Tapas to potato chips and anchovies. It was off to another intimate restaurant, while not quite as nice as the first night.
We could have spent many more days walking the city and taking in all that Barcelona has to offer. This city makes you want to stay and we understand why it is one of the top destinations in Europe...We will be back.
