S
ince the 1st of July 20a6, I started a new internship in Barcelona, in the Bistrot Kserol. I was also employed as an au-paire.
The bar is located next to the Sagrada Familia, and the good thing is that I live less than 5 minutes from it (the bar). Actually, if you walk up the street you arrive at the Sagrada Familia. In fact, this is cool because if you look up the street from the balcony you can see this beautiful monument, and if you look down the street, still from the balcony you may see the sea.
I work every day except for Sundays, and my weekend actually starts from Saturday at 1 p.m. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays I take the children to school, which is transformed into a summer camp, then I fetch them at 1 p.m. So, these mornings are reserved for me to be a tourist. I make them have lunch and play with them until their mum would come back home so that I could go and work as a waitress at the bar.
The other days, I drop the children at school and then I work in the café in the morning and I look after the children during the afternoon.
Tourism: I like to loose myself in the numerous and pretty streets of Barcelona, I have fun making a lot of nice pictures (at least I try to) that you can see. I also benefit from all the nice little shops for a bit of shopping from times to time, how is it possible to resist?
I visited twice the Park Guëll, because it is really beautiful and it really gives you the feeling you're on holiday. There were some people playing music and that was making you chill and relax for a while, even though there was such a huge amount of tourists (well, it's the summer season, so I can't really complain about it).
I visited the cathedral, which is very nice, one of Gaudí's houses, located on the Passeig de Gracia. The Casa Batlló is really extraordinary for its shapes, its beauty, its architectural originality, etc...
Obviously I visited the Sagrada Familia! It is a real artwork, even though it will be finished, in theory in 10 years. The lightning effects are really well done, well thought and worked on, because they are magic! Nothing has been made randomly, each column has its signification and all together they are supposed to represent a forest, as for Gaudí it was major to be related to the nature all the time, in fact we can notice this in most of his works. I climb up a tour, the nativity tour. The view was wonderful, I could see all the surrounding mountains, the sea, and of course, the beautiful Catalan capital.
I also enjoyed walking up and down the Ramblas, going to the beach once a week at the Barceloneta, even if it was over crowded by tourists. Visiting the area of Gracía, which is a more popular and typical place of Barcelona, in fact, it is quite calm as there is hardly any tourists there for some reason, at least not when I visited it.
The main things I have learned from my internship, is that as long as there is a good atmosphere, a good organisation and that everybody is smiling, working becomes much easier and nicer. I also learned that it is important to always be on alert, because at any moment something can happen. A guest enters, we must welcome him or her and take care of this person, another one wants to pay, the sun is starting to shine on the terrace, so we have to quickly go outside to open the parasols, etc...
Oh yes, and before closing this article, I think it's important to say that I really eat good food here. This even made me realise how important it is to eat well. Suddenly we feel much more joyful, more energetic, it is much easier to work and do the things we don't really want to do, but have to do anyway, and the social relations work out much better too.
