Leaving Mansilla de las Mulas
Awesome fresh orange juice at this stop We were all feeling a little pooped out today - most likely because of the endless hot and sunny days... In some ways we are blessed with beautiful weather, but unfortunately it has been with us for the entirety of the Meseta portion; so it feels like walking through the Prairies during a heatwave and drought (with no end in sight).
We have now been walking for 23 days straight without a day off. While this may not be what most of us planned, our little group seems to be keen to just keep walking. We have had some shorter. days and even when we don't, we still seem to find tons of time to socialize, eat, drink and "hang out". Walking has simply become the thing we "do" and it would feel strange to not do it.
We came upon a nice little shaded rest spot before Leon - complete with benches, running water and a drinking font. The.stone water fountain also had "Santiago - 307 km" carved into it; which made us quite happy as it means that we have walked about 500 km in 3 weeks.
The walk into Leon didn't seem quite as tedious
as the walk into Burgos and we decided to stay at a very new and modern hostel just outside of the old city.
