My Flat MatesMy Flat MatesMy Flat Mates

And i apologise (not very) sincerely for just how drunk i am in all of these! (L-R: Adrianna, Anna, yo y Johanna)
¡¡¡Hey guys!!!

Hope all´s fab in ol´blighty, because luckily for me things are still muy bien at this end too. Catching up on what i wrote last time i got the job looking after the two little girls, Sofia and Irene (said /Eerenay/) and have now moved into my flat and started throwing myself into study at the uni (well, less throwing myself, more dragging my ass along to get there for 9am lectures...god, whatever must life be like in the real world eh?!).

Anyhoo, I love love love my 70´s style flat and the three girls i´m sharing with are totally fantastic. A quick rundown is that the finnish girl Johanna is possibly one of the funniest people you will ever meet, with a completely oddball sense of humour (kindred spirit then), as well as an accent that would put any wannabe porn star to shame - "you mest tell meee if i em doing theees frong." Anna, an italian girl who´s parents are british ex-pats is also adorably plummy, caring and intelligent, and alongside Adrianna, our wonderful chica española, we´ve all been getting on so well that no doubt we´ll all soon be headhunted for a spanish

Another UEA student who has been like my sister since we have been here - well i needed someone to hurl abuse at eh?

Our flat is in fact a converted old hotel (with a suspicious past *ex-brothel?*), lying as it does on the doorway to Zara´s redlight district, and is masterminded by our mafioso landlord de jour, Dom Pedro. He is an incredible character who works with his 'children' (read 40 year old son and daughter) who both flank him behind his desk in the office, as the (presumably) dead granny looks down with disapproving eyes from her portrait on the side wall. Don Pedro is a firm believer that the key to co-habiting happiness lies in "respecto, respecto" and has eyes on stalks for any man who comes within 200m of our girls only flat - so lets just say we´ve all learnt a fair amount of subtervuge (sp?) since living here!!! However, after we were all frogmarched to sign our contracts, the Don immediately became all sweetness and light giving us a hamper of fuit and veg from his garden, and of course, showing us the prized photos of his grandchildren - i´ve never eaten peaches as a deal-clincher before, but hey, they were so sweet and juicy, nothing like the ones back home, and so
And here's the sun we were enjoying! And here's the sun we were enjoying! And here's the sun we were enjoying!

It's only 22' right now...i'm shivering! I just realised it's only rained once since i've been here!
it could have been a lot worse right?
;-)

As for university, i´m still doing a fair old amount of class hopping, trying to tailor something that i can both understand, and has at least of modicum of a chance being accepted by uni back home as English Lit related. Still, i got onto some Phd modules which are incredible so i´m really happy with that; even though here i have to do 5 seperate units instead of the 3 i would normally do in England, which is a bit knackering. Some of the classes are just incredible though, with such inspiring teachers (read 'a male sarah garland´) which has made the whole experience so far seem really worthwhile intellectually as well as 'holistically´(sorry guys...i have to write something to make mum happy!!!)

Anyhoo, they say that a picture is worth a thousand words so here´s my epic...

Missing you all, thanks for all the wonderful emails, comments and phone calls. And a very happy birthday to a Miss Karan Parker (if that is her real name!!!) who doesnt email me but whom i love anyway,
Hasta luego, hugs, ali x x x
