The morning we though breakfast was at 8.45 but charlies friend came in and told us it was at 7.45 so we had to go…in order to get lunch as well. So forced ourselves awake. Wrote up summary that morning sitting outside next to the annex, was very pleasant. And then when I finished sian was still stressing…but nearly finished. I packed up, gald I did so cos we had to do a clean up of the whole place afterwards including sweeping the floor of our rooms and putting everything back in place. And then handed in our work at 1.00 pm-such a relief! Was a time to distress afterwards, everyone then seemed to have nothing to do and was bored! Think the 2 weeks made us become geology robots! Well me and Cheryl played cards, ... read more

-that seeing my laptop, looking at the amazingly high-tech LCD monitor and typing on it could feel so awesomely cool!!!! Been deprived of a computer for 2 weeks! Also amazing how we can just connect to the internet using a plug and little square modem-y thing! - that I could tan so unevenly! - Sian and Lillie could bicker so bitterly about geology work - Cheryl had such an Indian accent, and could also swear so much -How good Cheryl is at playing 24 -That I could survive 2 weeks facing the same 65 other people on my course everyday…and not seeing anybody else-yes including village/local people -That Sorbas could actually be called a town!! Not much there at all in terms of variety of shops-only residential-it is ultra pretty at night though! -That Spanish shops ... read more

Basically walked to area D, sat under a tree quite close to the path and started inking our notes and maps. Cos we did everything already just spread out the massive 22 locations we took yesterday in area B into that day’s. steven and fathi came along and sat, they were agueing as to whether to continue working or not. Me and Cheryl were just working…not caring much about their bickering. I coloured in literally my whole map. CNB, FL and Clara came along and spotted us, didn’t say anything to us except ask whether we were hurt or anything…I guess he couldn’t say anything about our map today cos it was all coloured in, and also they couldn’t give us any help on the last 2 days. So was cool we finished that so we ... read more

Explored the whole area B. Cheryl used high tech technology-mobile phone to record the readings…was really fast, zoomed thru the area. Found lotsa boundaries between gneiss, conglomerates, marl and limestone, ultra productive! We had to walk up a cortijo filled with sheep poo which was ultra bad…area B the top part seemed nice though, could see all the gneiss hills and limestone outsrops clearly. They say this area was hard but I think we did it all quite comprehensively.... read more

Explored area D-the long linear hill. The moment we got off the coach we were kinda lost! Tried asking FL where to go to get to area D-he seemed really vague about it. so we walked through the village of Los Ramirez but this stupid brown dog came out barking and chased us…we didn’t run but it was annoying cos we had to walk across people’s farmland which was even worse than walking through their concrete path-STUPID DOG!!!! So we ended up doing a detour towards the mountains in A and then going around to area D that way. It was the most energy wasting thing ever-just cos of the stupid dog. We got there in the end, and got to the white path, saw the faulted gneiss blocks where we recorded their dip and strike. ... read more

Day 3 mapping. We decided to be the first ones to go to area E to see the abandoned gypsum quarry. I dunno if it was a good idea or not. When we got off the coach it was only us two by the road…and before we got off THG didn’t give us a very accurate location number…but we tried to figure out, and ended up walking more than 3 km down the road across the junction towards this building in fron t of a used quarry where a woman warned us not to go up there. It was annoying walking along the road cos the stupid lorries kept on sounding their horns at us for no real apparent reason…I was getting paranoid that we might be in the explosive zone or something cos we were ... read more

Day 2 of mapping. Me and Cheryl decided to do C. boy was it boring-alllll limestone!! And we really had to wee-so we found this big nest looking thing which seemed to provide good shelter hehe. We went across the whole high elevation area, and ,et Nick and Clara, FL obviously started pointing us in the direction where we could see echinoids and bryozoan fossils…but we didn’t go. We found a way across to the higher mountains across the area by going behind a hill. And once we were there we were like ‘ok crap, how do we get down?’ and we had to resort to going down a very steep hill where there were loads of prickly plants and cheryl’s ankle was real bad. Saw THG which was bit of a relief…going down the same ... read more

First day of mapping week, and wasn’t good cos Sian was a bit mad at Lillie for leaving her on her own for the first day cos she was too sick…Sian said she had the same cold but it seemed to affect Lillie twice as much cos she’s so used to getting pampered by her bf. Well guess cant blame her that much. But it was a daunting day. Coach dropped us off and we walked up a seemingly endless path uphill towards the top of a valley. We then lcimbed up lotsa gneiss boulder beds to the top of a mountain-500m. it was a breath taking scene at the top. It was the toughest climb…had to literally down 500 ml of water and stand to recover for a few minutes. RG as usual was way ... read more

Saturday, and still more geology work…this time within the Nijar basin looking at Miocene and quaternary sediments, looking at sedimentary beds and their relationships. Fossil lover was so excited cos Time History Guy found a really large 15 cm long clam fossil-kept on taking photos of it! THG was also glad to fina fossil since he stated that he rarely found fossils. THG was explaining loads of stuff to us though, and it was all cool. As usual RG was going up this slope and told us to go up to see the onlapping due to transgression of Miocene beds. Was still a bit confusing though….there’s something about the way he explains-seem to not get it when he explains….particularly confusing when Philippa in the end ‘spiel’ said it was sea level fall instead of transgression as ... read more

Metamorphic day-went to sierra de Los Filabres. Was with Richard ‘gay’ who seriously made verything so confusing! and we were by a road so kept on having to move out the way when someone shouted motor vehicle. At least the day was a change from the sedimentaty stuff we saw in the past few days. We went to the bottom of the mountain where we had lunch, and THG did a ‘spiel’ Walked to a sandstone outcrop…had no idea what that was all about! Made no sense whatsoever. Phillippa wasn’t being that helpful cos she was suggesting loads of things and made us think but wasn’t telling us the answers hehe. We also stopped to look over a breath-taking view of the valley and saw the Porites reef at the top and the talus slope adjacent ... read more
