tapas
tapas bar after walking tour Just like with the last two cities I have been in I will be attending the walking tour of the city today. Its a good way to get a good feel for the history of the place you are staying and see some of the big sights in a more interesting way than just walking around doing it yourself. Plus it's always fun to walk around and chit chat with everyone else which inevitably leads to going out for lunch or a beer after the tour. The tour guide today was a a man named Saul from Australia. The man definitely knew his history and endeared himself to the group by bringing along a water bottle with a mist fan and spraying the group every 20 minutes or so. Quite needed when its in the mid 90s (in the summer it will get up to 110-120, say what!). Walked through the winding alleys of the Jewish quarter and got a little bit of history about the Jewish population in the area which was nice. Of course it ends with the Inquisition and their exile from Spain but it's cool to see what endured. Ended the tour in the main square and
don quixote
don quixote headed over to a tapas bar called Bar Alfalfa with a couple of people from the tour based on SaulĀ“s suggestion. Ordered a handful of tapas which were all pretty tasty. Not a bad way to have lunch. After walking all day in the heat the girls headed back to the hostel but I decided to walk around a bit more. Unfortunately I did not really get anything out of this since the main cathedral was closed due to limited hours since it is Corpus Christi week or something and the Inquisition Museum was closed as well. Oh well. I am in no rush here. I'll probably just do it tomorrow afternoon. It will be give me something to do. More importantly I am very excited to go to the final night of the music fest I mentioned in the previous blog with a few others from the Hostel. Public Enemy (had no idea they were still together) are headlining and then there is a rave after. Should be pretty interesting. Time to head up to the pool for a little relaxing before the nighttime activities.
Turns out that there will be a pretty big group of us heading
street corner
popular street corner out to this music fest tonight. The venue is right by the river, about a 20 minute walk, so the group of us headed down there a little before midnight hoping to get there just in time for Public Enemy. Worked out perfectly. Usually you end up standing around for an hour before the people at a concert get their stuff together but not tonight. They came on and rocked it for a over an hour. Flava Flav was doing his thing and basically acting like an insane person. The novelty of seeing an American hip hop group that became popular in the later 80s in the year 2010 in Sevilla never really wore off, especially as Flava kept trying to say Sevilla but with this weird way of talking, it never came out right. Great night in Sevilla and definitely want to stay an extra night here.
